My novel manuscript

I can't remember if I made a specific reference to this particular project before, but be prepared for another round of self-promotion on my part....
I finished the novel I was working on, and I have now finished about 20 rounds of revisions to it. As of right now, I am considering it finished. This will likely only be true until someone points out something about it that needs to be changed, and then I will hate the current draft and won't be happy until I have "fixed" it again.
The story is set in a small town in Montana for most of the book, and touches on a lot of issues and themes that many of you will likely be familiar with. If you are interested in taking a look, it is posted at:
http://thebergum.com/pages/2/index.htm
To date, I have been devoting my free time to getting the manuscript into a form that I was relatively happy with. My next step is to begin seriously investigating the publishing process. So as I say to everyone I talk to about this, if you happen to have any personal connections with, or insights into, literary agents or publishers for this kind of fictional novel, I would love any help that you can provide me. Thanks in advance!

I can't remember how many people I have promised the first copy to, but if this thing gets published, then I will be thrilled to give out as many signed "first copies" of the thing as I can. That would be cool [as BAC fades into a fantasy scene of his first book signing, with girls screaming and flashing him to try to get his attention, and guys wishing they were him; his body guards picking only the hottest of the maidens for the limo ride back to the crib to drink 40s and Kristal before his overly hot and talent-less celebrity singer girlfriend gets back from her album promotion. Then the bubble pops and he realizes that he's still sitting in his cube, staring blankly at a computer screen and surrounded by stacks of financial documents for him to review.]
So, ummm, yeah, you get the first one.

I read quite a bit and it was good. It's hard to write a novel and I was happy that 200 characters weren't introduced in the first paragraph...pet peeve. I like the Montana back ground of the story.
Did you see the movie about small Montana high school football called slaughter rule? I think it won awards a few years ago at Sun-dance.
Another pet peeve and it's minor but when you say he poured a cement pad....everyone understands what it is... but it's not correct.
It would be a concrete pad...I guess it's possible to pour a cement pad but 1st rain would wash it away. Minor but one of those things where I've
always had to correct. I have to.... can't stop myself no matter how how hard I try. So now you know how to get under my skin....cement pad...cement pad.

Hey Bronco. Thanks for both taking the time to read a bit of the book as well as for the kind words ... especially considering how snippy and obnoxious I tend to get on some of our threads with each other. In particular, thank you for helping me out with the concrete/cement thing. That is exactly the kind of help that I need on a constant basis. I am spending the afternoon doing writing stuff (packaging crap for submissions, which is a pain in the arse), so I will make your noted change right now. I know that I hate it when I come across things in books that are inaccurate or don't make sense, so to the extent I can avoid doing the same (with a lot of help from others), I am thrilled. Thanks again!
I did see Slaughter Rule, and I really liked it. In fact, my aunt is one of the EMTs that hauls the kid off of the field in Power. She didn't like the movie, though. I think they were expecting something more along the lines of "The Mighty Ducks" or something, when in reality the movie was pretty dark. But I like dark movies, especially ones shot largely on fields that I used to play back in the day. That movie made my DVD purchases list, as do most good Montana films.

Sounds good...I'm jealous of folks who can write and artists who can draw and the list goes on .
The slaughter rule was a dark movie. I got a kick out of the female character being called Skyla. I talked to the makers of the film and they named her after Lady Griz great Skyla Sisco who is also from a small Montana town.
Good luck with the book.

Just wondering....do you guys realize that this thread is from April 2005, so it is over 5 years old?
It doesn't meant that the novel isn't finished, or that it's not wonderful....but it is an old thread, resurrected by a first time poster and possible scammer.
just wondering

Yeah ... that thread was a bit stale.
For those that actually do want to see my current (and only) book info, this is the current website:
http://www.bradbergum.com
I see that one can get copies of it very cheap on Amazon right now ... looks like it must have finally fallen out of the NYT best seller list.

I didn't see that at all. But thought it was about time for a next novel.

Ah, come on. I've totally got a new one started and I'm roaring along.
Check out this beginning ...
"It was a dark and stormy night ...."
Now I just need a plot, some characters, a few gratuitous deaths, and a heavy handed ending, and I'm all done!
