Looks as if the two cases of the omicron, or whatever it is, were both from fully vaxxed.

To get to the omicron variant name they passed over the previous greek letter xi... Hmmmmm.
There are WAAAY more than two cases of omicron out there, and I think everyone knows that it’s possible for both vaccinated and unvaccinated to become infected. Hopefully the cases are less severe than the delta variant. If not, hopefully, like Delta, vaccines will be effective in preventing hospitalizations and death.

As for the naming Nu was also skipped.
The last update I believe was now 5 states but it will definitively increase.

Right, nu was skipped. Just thought it was interesting that xi was passed by.

It is always a poor narrative to think breakthrough cases justify not getting vaccinated. Those that are dying or hospitalized from COVID are unvaccinated +90% of the time. That is pretty important detail that is being left out of this foolish narrative...

Agree. I still wish they'd also include stats on whether the people dying or hospitalized had COVID prior though, and when they had it. That is never mentioned for some reason.

Flathead: 1226

Lewis & Clark: 881
Active Hospitalizations: 463
Total Deaths: 2321

Big jump in deaths. Also an increase in active cases and hospitalizations...both numbers that had been steadily declining.

Also, according to Monday's hospital report. It looks like the state has/had 458 patients hospitalized. 121 of those in ICU, 76 on Ventilators. Benefis (great falls), St. Peter's (helena), and Kalispell Regional are all at or over bed capacity.

Bozeman Health, St. Peters, Benefis, St. Patrick's (Missoula) and Missoula Community are all pretty much at/over capacity for ICU beds.

Missoula: 1343
Flathead: 960
Cascade: 1024
Lewis & Clark: 1040
Active Hospitalizations: 395

Big decrease in hospitalizations, and overall active cases. Lewis and Clark county had a pretty big increase in active cases, where almost everyone else is on the decline.

Yellowstone: 1874
Missoula: 800
Flathead: 623

Lewis & Clark: 954
Active Hospitalizations: 351
Total Deaths: 2423

Numbers continue to decline, which is great. Many hospitals still maxed out (according to the hospital report). Hospitalizations and Deaths are a lagging number, so hopefully we see some sharp drops in the near future.

Great Falls Benefis, Bozeman Deaconess, Kalispell Regional, Helena St. Peters all still over 90% capacity.

Great Falls Benefis, Billings Clinic, Bozeman Deaconess, Missoula Community, Butte St. James, Missoua St Patricks, Helena St. Peters, all at or nearing capacity for ICU beds.

Yellowstone: 1480
Missoula: 787
Flathead: 528
Cascade: 952
Lewis & Clark: 720
Active Hospitalizations: 316
Total Deaths: 2490

Active cases continue to go down. Hospitalizations down. All good signs. 67 deaths over the past week, which isn't great, but I expect to see that number start to fall as well.
11/22/21

New Cases: 511
Active Cases: 5,911
(Top 5 Counties)
Yellowstone: 1239
Missoula: 778
Flathead: 510
Cascade: 800
Lewis & Clark: 564
Active Hospitalizations: 266
Total Deaths: 2,567

Finally.....things look to be trending in the right direction. 77 deaths last week is an increase, but that number should start going down dramatically now.
12/1/21

New Cases: 585
Active Cases: 4,026
(Top 5 Counties)
Yellowstone: 894
Missoula: 478
Flathead: 416
Cascade: 252
Lewis & Clark: 427
Active Hospitalizations: 220
Total Deaths: 2,722

Downward trends everywhere.

Benefis, Kalispell, St. Peters, St. Vincent are all still 90+%, with St. Peter's in Helena being at 100% capacity. In terms of ICU beds, Missoula Community and Billings Clinic are still at 100% capacity.

The deaths went up pretty substantially, but it sounds like that was based on reporting and a good bit of those were from back in september/october.
12/29/21

New Cases: 389
Active Cases: 2,905
(Top 5 Counties)
Yellowstone: 448
Missoula: 309
Gallatin: 486
Cascade: 166
Lewis & Clark: 185
Active Hospitalizations: 121
Total Deaths: 2,905

Gallatin is the state's hottest spot right now, I assume Omicron is just getting going there.

It will be interesting to track Omicron. So far, like everywhere else, Montana has a dramatic increase in positive cases. We're already matching and exceeding our largest daily case numbers, and I have a feeling we are just getting started. Omicron is going to dwarf previous spikes. That said, it will be interesting to see the severity. Will hospitalizations and severe cases remain at a manageable level?

I think we will definitely see some workforce reductions and possibly even some schools go back to virtual learning simply because the district doesn't have the staffing.

Hold on to your butts....It could be a crazy next couple weeks.

Wish we could somehow track how many Montanans brought Covid back with them as an extra souvenir from Texas like my family did.

Add my wife and I. Could have been the airplanes, the airports, or TX. We had been vaccinated and I previously had it. Our symptoms are like a moderate cold.

I made it back healthy. I think all the alcohol in my system would have killed the virus instantly.

Missoula: 1600
Flathead: 1226
Cascade: 1260

Yellowstone: 2053
Missoula: 1343
Flathead: 960
Cascade: 1024
Lewis & Clark: 1040
Active Hospitalizations: 395
Total Deaths: 2366

Big decrease in hospitalizations, and overall active cases. Lewis and Clark county had a pretty big increase in active cases, where almost everyone else is on the decline.
11/8/21

New Cases: 908
Active Cases: 7,815
(Top 5 Counties)
Yellowstone: 1874
Missoula: 800
Flathead: 623
Cascade: 707
Lewis & Clark: 954
Active Hospitalizations: 351
Total Deaths: 2423

Numbers continue to decline, which is great. Many hospitals still maxed out (according to the hospital report). Hospitalizations and Deaths are a lagging number, so hopefully we see some sharp drops in the near future.

Great Falls Benefis, Bozeman Deaconess, Kalispell Regional, Helena St. Peters all still over 90% capacity.

Great Falls Benefis, Billings Clinic, Bozeman Deaconess, Missoula Community, Butte St. James, Missoua St Patricks, Helena St. Peters, all at or nearing capacity for ICU beds.

Yellowstone: 1480
Missoula: 787
Flathead: 528
Cascade: 952
Lewis & Clark: 720
Active Hospitalizations: 316
Total Deaths: 2490

Active cases continue to go down. Hospitalizations down. All good signs. 67 deaths over the past week, which isn't great, but I expect to see that number start to fall as well.
11/22/21

New Cases: 511
Active Cases: 5,911
(Top 5 Counties)
Yellowstone: 1239
Missoula: 778
Flathead: 510
Cascade: 800
Lewis & Clark: 564
Active Hospitalizations: 266
Total Deaths: 2,567

Finally.....things look to be trending in the right direction. 77 deaths last week is an increase, but that number should start going down dramatically now.
12/1/21

New Cases: 585
Active Cases: 4,026
(Top 5 Counties)
Yellowstone: 894
Missoula: 478
Flathead: 416
Cascade: 252
Lewis & Clark: 427
Active Hospitalizations: 220
Total Deaths: 2,722

Downward trends everywhere.

Benefis, Kalispell, St. Peters, St. Vincent are all still 90+%, with St. Peter's in Helena being at 100% capacity. In terms of ICU beds, Missoula Community and Billings Clinic are still at 100% capacity.

The deaths went up pretty substantially, but it sounds like that was based on reporting and a good bit of those were from back in september/october.
12/29/21

New Cases: 389
Active Cases: 2,905
(Top 5 Counties)
Yellowstone: 448
Missoula: 309
Gallatin: 486
Cascade: 166
Lewis & Clark: 185
Active Hospitalizations: 121
Total Deaths: 2,905

Gallatin is the state's hottest spot right now, I assume Omicron is just getting going there.
1/14/22

New Cases: 2177

Yellowstone: 2208
Missoula: 1591
Gallatin: 2421
Flathead: 1295
Lewis & Clark: 844
Active Hospitalizations: 195
Total Deaths: 2,945

It will be interesting to track Omicron. So far, like everywhere else, Montana has a dramatic increase in positive cases. We're already matching and exceeding our largest daily case numbers, and I have a feeling we are just getting started. Omicron is going to dwarf previous spikes. That said, it will be interesting to see the severity. Will hospitalizations and severe cases remain at a manageable level?

I think we will definitely see some workforce reductions and possibly even some schools go back to virtual learning simply because the district doesn't have the staffing.

Hold on to your butts....It could be a crazy next couple weeks.
1/28/22

New Cases: 2,888
Active Cases: 19,817
(Top 5 Counties)
Yellowstone: 3803
Missoula: 3140
Gallatin: 2608
Cascade: 1643
Lewis & Clark: 1412
Active Hospitalizations: 312
Total Deaths: 2,993

A co-worker’s sister-in-law died of COVID last week. They had to say goodbye to her over the phone (she was unresponsive at that time). That is the first person I know who had to say goodbye like that. Awfully sad.

I don't recall seeing if they have released the information on people that 1) Died WITH covid or 2) Died FROM covid. I have a friend who is the only one I know personally to have died recently. They listed it as a covid death. He has been stage 4 cancer patient for the last 10 years, he refused chemo and was self medicating. His doctors all wanted to know what he was doing to be as healthy as he was for so long, he would not tell them. But chalk it up to covid.

PS
I am not surprised Gallatin County leads the state in cases, just look at how many people fly in and out every day. Sun Valley Idaho was the early leader in covid in Idaho, I can tell you where most of them flew in from.

If there is a stat that differentiates the difference between “from Covid” and “with Covid”, it will be hard to find with today’s media. Such thoughts are shouted down as “non-science” and “blasphemy”, when in actuality it is a really good question.

Here is some pretty easy information to digest to understand the effect to American's during the pandemic:
  • Life expectancy overall fell from 78.8 years in 2019 to 77 years in 2020.
  • For males, the average life expectancy fell 2.1 years, from 76.3 in 2019 to 74.2 in 2020.
  • For women, the average decrease was 1.5 years, from 81.4 in 2019 to 79.9 in 2020.
  • The average age-adjusted death rate increased by nearly 17 percent, from 715.2 deaths per 100,000 people in 2019, to 835.4 deaths per 100,000 people in 2020.
Call it "from COVID" or "with COVID' either way this pandemic has been devastating to millions of families.

No question any loss of human life is devastating, but you fail to grasp the point. For the first time in history, we shut down society and quarantined healthy people and people at minimal risk. The “with covid” or “from covid” statistics would help us further understand whether such drastic actions were warranted. Today’s strain is less than a cold for most people, yet some areas are still threatening businesses with closures if certain policies are not followed.

I am confused why you have such an issue with data that illustrates the “with covid” versus “from covid” data? Won’t it help us understand the disease? Why is it not readily available?

Stop. Just stop. I'm not arguing morbidity numbers, but COVID is far worse than "less than a cold" for almost everyone. Millions of people don't die from a cold. I might agree that COVID is more often than not akin to a really bad cold/flu bug for many/most people, but it's hyperbolic and dishonest to say it's not even as bad as a cold. Spend one day working in a hospital right now, like I do, and your eyes would be opened wide.

I think it's a fair question to ask for "with COVID" vs. "from COVID," I just think that's probably impossible to extrapolate right now.

Please re-read what you bolded above. I said most people - not all people. Are the people you see in a hospital considered “most people”, or the very small percentage that ends up in the hospital?

Speaking of experiences, just like everyone else, I know a lot of people that have had Covid RECENTLY. I am very fortunate that not one of those people have had to be hospitalized. Over half of those people I know, they exhibited no signs but tested because they were exposed. Our experiences are different, but it seems pretty clear that TODAYS strain is much weaker.

It does seem that the Omicron strain, while likely the most transmissible strain yet, thankfully also seems to not be as virulent as previous strains (particularly Delta). I still wouldn’t say it is less than a cold to most, or even to many. Our hospitals have still been extremely full (we are still in crisis care here in many areas in Idaho), although gratefully far fewer of the patients admitted are in the ICU than this past fall. Regardless, they don’t admit people to the hospital unless they are very sick. I think it’s fair to say that most people who contract Covid right now probably feel sick with cold/flu-like symptoms for a few days and then get better, but I just think it’s misleading to compare it to a cold.
