I happen to agree with Brent Musberger on this issue. Just because he is a journalist doesn’t mean he doesn’t know what he is talking about. Anabolic steroids like most all other drugs have potential benefits as well as side effects. Lack of regulation of any black market drug is the reason these things are dangerous imho.

I am certainly not an expert or doctor of any kind but I can read. When properly used anabolic hormones or HGH can have many positive health benefits while minimizing the side effects. Potential benefits include increase in bone density, muscle growth, fat loss and increased capacity for recovery from injuries as well as intense workouts. Side effects can be minimized by proper cycling and blood monitoring like with most powerful drugs.

I would think with the obesity problem we have in this country anabolics would get a serious look from the medical community.

I think Musburger's premise might have some merit...the debate over steroids or any performance enhancing drug and supplement has always been framed by journalists and not by the medical community. I don't think there's a consensus in the medical community, but sometimes the argument would be better argued there than by journalists who see themselves as self-appointed judges, juries, and executioners when it comes to what they see as what is good and right in sports. I'm not advocating the use of steriods or HGH for anyone (and no I'm not a user), but I think evidence would reveal that not everyone who has ever used either of these dies of some odd cancer, heart attack, assaults someone in an uncontrolled rage, or suffers from depression and kills themself which is what the media has largely presented. Clearly there are risks, but couldn't the same thing be said about alcohol use?

I watched a pretty interesting documentary not too long ago called "Bigger, Faster, Stronger" which is about steroid use and abuse in sports. It was actually pretty funny and portrayed different sides to the debate that I'd never thought of that I found interesting and compelling. Highly recommended.

I think it's safe to say that the Office of National Drug Control Policy is not very interested in presenting anything but the most doomsday-sounding account of most any drug. Their existence is dependent upon creating the most evidence they can to justify the "War on Drugs."

And I will say it again ... if one's lack of natural muscle mass is not something that can be assisted through the miracles of modern technology for sporting purposes, I think we should be consistent and ban ALL unnatural aids for the genetic shortcomings of people.

So ... corrective lenses of any kind should be banned across the board. It's only fair.

That way, those of us born with great natural eyes don't have to compete against those who cheat the system by using vision-enhancing devices (it's the only hope me or any of my descendents will ever have of going pro ... so work with me on this! )
