low budget broadcast needs

Post by Platinumcat » Sun Sep 26, 2010 5:48 pm

I have always thought about offering a low budget broadcast of high school sports. Primarily I would cover football and wrestling. I have watched some internet broadcasts in the past out of Idaho for high school wrestling that are pretty well done.

So, what kinds of things would I need in order to do a decent job of offering an internet-based broadcast?

I believe #1 is to get approval from the MHSA.

You could do it on the cheap with the following:

HD quality camcorder
Laptop/computer with 500gb or larger hard drive

Depending on the software you use, you will need to compress the video so it doesnt take up as much bandwidth. Encoders can be cheap or expensive but you get what you pay for when it comes to video quality.

I would package/edit the files to be broadcast on the web then publish them to a server, either one you own or an off site server.

But first I would do what the previous poster suggested and get the rights to broadcast the games.
