So here I am, posting while watching the Butler vs MSU game from my brand new iPad. Vanns here in Helena carried them. They are all out. If you have an iPod touch and like it, you'll love the iPad. So far, I'm very impressed.

I really want one, but I'm going to force myself to wait a year or so to (hopefully) get a better one a bit cheaper. I am an anti-early adopter ... I don't have the courage you guys do!

I really think this may well be another game-changer from Apple. I can see people giving up books, mags and newspapers in hard copy and going to this form of media in the coming years. It's a bit like Star Trek, isn't it?

I think this will have a big impact on how students access textbooks and information, both k-12 and higher ed. I've watched for 25 years now how this technology or that gadget is going to really change education (PCs, laptops, dvds, smartboards, cellphones, responders, ...). I have always been skeptical and haven't seen anything come to fruition yet. I think the iPad may be the real deal.

Apple products are so much better than any windows "sh*t". They actually work when you need them to and thats huge in my book.

I broke down and jumped on the iPad bandwagon ... no regrets. The thing is pretty awesome, and I think this is where the future is taking us.

But perhaps even more importantly ... it is AMAZING at shutting up a whiny 16 month old. This will be so nice for the next time we try to fly with child!

Great idea.....are there some good apps for the little ones? I haven't explored that.

What are your favorite apps so far?
I've got the ibooks and kindle apps....a couple of books on each.
USA Today
The Weather Channel MAX (great free app with local forecasts, radar, etc.)
Good Reader, which let's me import and read Word Docs, PDF files, Powerpoint
Offline Pages, which let's me save a webpage to read it when I don't have WiFi
Mafia Wars (a guys got to have a little fun)
Tweet Deck (twitter app)
NPR - good info
Wolfram Alpha - type in almost any scientific question, and it will answer
Asphalt 5 - Driving game

I've got quite a few, those are just my favorites.

As a side note, rumor has it that Apple will be coming out with a "Folders" app sometime this summer. IMO this is much needed....I have to scroll through 6 or 7 pages to get to an app, and I'd love to be able to organize them into "Games", "Work", etc.

We just got ours Monday night, so we're still exploring a bit. For the kid, we downloaded the free piano app, bought "Up" for him to watch (amazing resolution!), and downloaded the free Toy Story book app thingy. We'll probably get a bunch more books as well.

For my own use, I'm thinking it will primarily be a book/magazine reader and internet/email access. I find its easier to surf the web on the ipad (because of the touchscreen) than on a laptop, so it's really convenient that way. Pandora is also really cool on it, and I may end up using the ipod functionality as well. The only game I've downloaded is RealRacingHD. I'm not much of a gamer, but it is a good way to kill time, and is pretty impressive in terms of graphics and feel. We've come a long ways since Pole Position!

It's technically my wife's device (b-day and x-mas gift for the past several years), so I won't be using it for most of the personalized apps (calendar, contacts, etc.), as she will get those. I have most of that on my iphone now, so I will have to make due ... even though the phone screen looks so tiny now.

I've read several books on it already, and I haven't noticed any eye fatigue. In fact, I can adjust the brightness based on my preference, and adjust the font size (since I'm getting older.. ).

Not really.....You can go out of the program you are reading in and take notes in another program, but you can't have multiple windows open - definitely one of the things that they will need to correct as it goes forward.
