Is this a new kind of hunting or am I just reading this wrong?

There's so much in this story.

100 hunters
50 elk killed
Hunters shooting at the herd from both sides
1 hunter died (not shot)
6 hunters cited

Yeah, no $h!t.

Mass stupidity... Would love to have seen 100 tickets and let them sort it out. These classless idiots should NEVER be allowed to carry a license.

Damit that makes me sick. This year is my 50th year of big game hunting and thankfully I've never actually witnessed a slaughter like that but have heard of them every year. No thanks I'll harvest my animal in a far different manner. About 45 years ago in my youth I hunted with a group that turned out to be of low ethics and swore I would never be in that position again. Fool idiots they were.

I remember something similar to this happening out near Townsend 5-10 years ago.

Haven’t heard of any thing this big since the old “firing line” at Gardiner. At 8:00 a.m. the hunting day would start. My father was there trying to get an elk for food. Yup, that’s what a lot of Montanans literally survived on — I’m probably 25-30% elk meat by weight. He had no idea what would ensue and ended up taking cover behind a big rock. A large group of elk had migrated out of the Park overnight, and they got caught in a crossfire. Two hunters were killed that morning. For all the rest of the years that he, and later with me, got to hunt elk we were always out somewhere quietly trying to cut a track, far, far away from the madding crowd.
