Sir! Permission to protest, sir!

Post by TomCat88 » Wed Aug 26, 2020 5:13 pm

Lets see. You can't take a knee during the national anthem. But can you just not show up for a playoff game?

The NBA's Bucks are protesting by not playing tonight. I would think that would be welcomed with open arms as a good way to protest. We'll see. I don't know though, considering that taking a knee was a big affront on veterans (not this one), the country, the flag and so on. My guess is this Bucks' protest and players will be slammed by our "leaders" and absolutely nothing will change.

It's interesting to see people posting so much about police brutality and violent protest, but no one offering ideas for solutions. Not just here but on Twitter and the networks. You'd think someone would go on Fox or CNN and explain "here's what needs to happen to get this resolved..." and then line out a step-by-step plan for de-escalating the situation and enacting new rules/laws to address the core problem.

If nothing else, there stance is at least drawing more attention to the issue. Which I would have thought would have been impossible to do after the Ferguson incident months ago.

There has to be a way to deal with these situations besides shooting people. I literally have no knowledge on this whatsoever. But do tasers not work? Rubber bullets? Pepper spray? Basically anything we can imagine besides live bullets?

People watch these videos and point out that if these men were to comply with officers, force wouldn't be necessary. And that is true. It's not as if people protesting are implying that every person shot by police is a perfect angel. Watching that video yesterday, they kept trying to subdue the man before he walked over to the drivers side of his vehicle. This was a terrible decision. They have no way of knowing what he's going to do in that moment. But there HAS to be another way besides shooting him in the back seven times. There just has to be.
