PARK CITY, Utah – Montana State newcomer Benedicte Lyche finished 18th overall in the women’s giant slalom with a two-run total of 2:34.78 to pace the Bobcat skiers in the opening day of the University of Utah Invitational Friday afternoon at Park City Mountain Resort.
 
Also scoring points for the Bobcats were Kari Hole, 20th, 2:34.95 and Stephanie Irwin, 23rd, 2:36.40.
Colorado’s Brooke Wales won the women’s individual GS title in 2:30.18.
 
Rounding out MSU’s contributors were Tenaya Driller, 29th, Elizabeth Koprucki, 35th, and Jennifer Irwin, 38th.
 
In all, MSU gathered 42 points and sit in sixth place behind CU 88, Utah 84, Denver 82, New Mexico 74 and Westminster College 45. Alaska-Anchorage and Colorado Mountain College rounded out the top eight.
 
Both the men and women raced in the Rocky Mountain Intercollegiate Ski Association/NCAA giant slalom qualifier earlier in the week. Garret Driller and David Owsley paced the Bobcat men finishing 20th and 28th, respectively, while Hole, 16th, Stephanie Irwin, 26th, Koprucki, 32nd, and Jennifer Irwin, 38th anchored the Montana State women’s contingent.
 
Also racing, but not finishing their runs was Tenaya Driller, Lyche, Michael Radford and David Neuhauser.
 
The UU Invite will feature the men’s giant slalom on Saturday and the slalom races on Sunday, while the MSU Nordic squad will begin its season with the classical event on Sunday, followed by the freestyle on Monday morning.
