Maybe the best game the Cats have played all year! They played like they were hungry! Keep it going! Very impressed with the experience in Boise. Beautiful arena! Come on down Cat fans!

They really played a great game. A little lull in the 2nd quarter but blew them away in that second half. Fun thing about this tournament is the players and coaches being so accessible in the venue and around town. Got to chat with some of our players and some of the Sac State girls at the food hall next door. Sac almost upset NAU but not quite. It’s just fun vibe all around.

The good news is that the Cats got to clear their bench in the fourth quarter. NAU did not.

Good point although I'm not sure if the term "clearing the bench" can even be applied to the Bobcats when the second team is just as good as the starters!

And Marah got a few minutes to shake off the rust.

So no ill affects?

I was just watching the first quarter again and my favorite moment that I missed watching live happened when MSU was racking up steal after steal and ahead 13-0. The UNC coach looks back at her assistant Katie (Bussey) Mayes on the bench. Katie says nothing and just shrugs like "I've got nothing, you're on your own".

She got in foul trouble with two quick fouls in the first quarter and then a 3rd right away in the second half. By then the route was on so not much need to risk her. I thought she moved well, but the timing may be just a tick off.

Isn’t that the one where off-camera Taylee is “borrowing” the inbound pass?

I think that was the play right before this one.

I don't think enough is being said about Izzy Bunyon stepping up in the absence of Dylan Philip.

Not surprisingly given the content of the above video clips, MSU has solidified its status as the #1 team in the nation in steals per game. They're up to 14.7 and #2 is now Utah Valley at 13.9 per game. Taylee Chirrick is now #6 in the country in individual steals per game which is absolutely crazy considering that she only plays about half of the game on average. The five players above her average 33.2, 36.5, 29.2, 35.5, and 33.7 minutes per game. Taylee is at 21.1 minutes per game.

Well, I’ve said it at home but now I’ll say it here. Isobel Bunyan is doing an amazing job. Each game she adds confidence and that’s letting her use skills that are a lot more polished than when she first came to MSU. She’s doing about everything you could ask of a 6’0” guard. She runs the floor, attacks the ball on passes, makes assists, and can score. I hope the “bench” players realize what a huge part of this team that they are. They are proving that it takes a lot of depth, and I’ve gotten to the point where I dint really pay attention to what combination is on the court. Isobel is doing a great job of being her — and that’s another pretty good basketball player.

My sister-in-law and husband in Iowa are of course major Hawkeye fans. Since they got knocked out of the BIXX (B19G) tournament, they are watching MSU and are properly amazed.

For the most part, I would say that the combination hasn't greatly mattered. The one thing that I do think has mattered most in our rotation is being able to bring Taylee and Natalie off the bench together to pick up our defensive pace after our starters have already brought a great defensive effort. Issy being able to play in the starting lineup allows us to run our normal substitution pattern. We didn't run with this rotation vs Sac State and I think that the change in our substitution rhythm was a big part of what didn't go right that game.

Sac got healthy at just the right time too. They gave it to NAU and honestly I found myself wondering who we would rather face in the championship. NAU can get tripped up by a good defensive team. Sac was playing tough the last week and this week.

By my count, Chirrick has played 652 minutes and has 102 steals in that amount of game time. That's 6.3 steals per 40 minutes played. Nutso.

Taylee needs two steals today to move ahead of Liz Holz into 3rd most in a season in Bobcat history and move into Top 10 in Big Sky history for steals in a season. Bobcats as a team need less than 10 steals today to move into second in Big Sky history in steals in a season.

But I’m sure they would rather have a big win today than worry about a couple records!

I think Taylee got that in the first half!
