2024 Big Sky Tournament — WBB

Post by Bobcat4Ever » Sat Mar 09, 2024 3:38 am

I agree with the comments on the matchups — I like it a lot. A big deal is letting NAU and UM beat each other up first. These are the two toughest psychological battles for MSU, and one of them will get dropped. I think we match up better with the gris, but it would sure be fun to beat NAU for the title. I flat think we can win this thing. Our defense is proven. We need to make passes to open players and our shot selection is key — it must improve, and if it does, we win. MJH wins it with a steal and an and-one. MVP.

Weber is going to beat PSU in the first game, so they'll play EWU in the other quarterfinal in MSU's half of the bracket.

Sac State over ISU in the second game to set up a rematch of last year's championship against NAU tomorrow. Do I ever get tired of seeing Seton Sobelewski lose? No I don't.

That's what I have in my bracket!

@rfischer94 Am I nuts, or have I watched this Bobcat team beat everyone except NAU, sweep EWU and Idaho on the road, etc? I need a professional opinion.

@Bobcat4Ever Well Im not that kind of doctor, but I don't think you're crazy! The Lady Cats have been surprising folks all season. I do worry that they will run out of gas, buy magical things happen in March!

Didn't last long! But this game has done nothing to change my feeling that NAU should be considered as the favorite to win this tournament.

Sac State leading Nau by one at the half. Sac is very long and athletic. Surprised at their record because they look really good.

Well, I guess you're on a roll, then. Only lost five of your last seven games.

NAU took control in the second half. Will be interesting to watch the EWU/Sac men's game tonight, Sac has been playing a lot better and EWU could be a bit anxious after also losing this game last year.

I hope the Lady Cats take a close look at the way NAU players especially Sophie Glancy, the Moran twins, and Leah Beattie handle the ball around the basket. All of them are under control and have their head up when they approach the basket.
Glancy is effective because she gets the ball on her fingertips and flips the ball into the basket rather than putting her head down and throwing herself into the defensive player. She seems to know how hard and where to shoot it off the board when she needs to. She puts a priority on making the basket rather than drawing a foul.
The Moran sisters are terrific ball handlers and smooth players that are always in control. They also prioritize making the basket.
Leah Beattie is just a good basketball player with a quick release...and she is also always in control which makes it easier to make baskets.

Griz leading Idaho by 10 at the half. Unlike the men's tournament, looks like it will be the top 4 seeds in the semifinals for the women.

After watching the UNC game I think that all that stuff I mentioned about looking at the basket and shooting the ball is a bunch of BS if the dearth of outside shooting allows your opponent to pack the paint like UNC did and turned a basketball game into a rugby match! I see why Glancy from NAU has so much room to maneuver in the paint and look at the basket and "shoot" the ball.

That was a gang fight! Leave it to a freshman, Izzy Bunyan, to start a rally that was just enough. If they can beat EWU with offense like that...I'll eat a big dish of crow!

Who ya got to win championship tonight?

NAU leads the league in scoring but is dead last in conference in defense.

Eastern Washington allowed fewest points per game in the conference (55ppg) and was third in conference in offense.

Teams split during regular season.

I’ve got Eastern because of defense.

EWU about to win this. Not gonna lie-I'm not unhappy about this result.
