I think Belo has forgotten what to do if he posts up in the lane but one shake doesn't allow him to dunk. He has to either go to the rim or shoot the hook. ...and his hook needs some "air"!

Are opponents figuring this out on film and beating him to the “dunk” spot, or just not going for his “shake” anymore?

Looks to me like they know he won't shoot the turn around jumper, and he can't seem to figure out what to do if his man bodies him up when he tries to go to the basket. He seems to not want to throw it back out and re-post, or he's temporarily trying to think of another move. Last year he would turn and go to the rim and dunk...now they've caught up with that move...maybe he needs a little teardrop hook, or a fall away. His present hook has as much arc to it as an 8 foot putt!

They need some outside shooting.

Yes! What's wrong with Patterson? He looked All Conference against Weber in the tourney last year. Can your "shot" just leave you like that?

Patterson shot 38% from 3 last year and is at 32% this year, so he hasn't fallen off too drastically. He's very streaky though - he was 13-25 from 3 in the first four conference games but is only 2-13 in the last four. Just have to hope he's "on" when the tourney rolls around like he was last year!

Gazelas is the player who has really fallen off a cliff this year in terms of shooting percentage.

Is Germar just not ready, was good shooter in high school. Maybe just can't defend yet as a 3 or 4?

I'm impressed with how Sprinks and his staff have constructed a roster that withstands shooting slumps. The magic is that there is no magic. His squad defends the crap out of people and then as long as the big guns stay out of foul trouble and are healthy (Belo, Battle, DB, etc.) we have a shot to win every game. Rim protection is at the heart of our defense.

With Belo and Great back to protect the paint, our wings can fly around and take chances and defend the three point line like their lives depend on it.

Seems like this year's squad is more prone to those, and we've had some shooting regression from the guys returning which hasn't helped, especially from downtown.

Battle:
2022: 45.7% FG, 34.9% 3PA
2023: 47.3% FG, 29.4% 3PA

Patterson:
2022: 40.5% FG, 37.6% 3PA
2023: 34.8% FG, 32.3% 3PA

Gazelas:
2022: 42.5% FG, 36.6% 3PA
2023: 21.1% FG, 14.3% 3PA

MSU would be in a pretty bad spot if not for Darius Brown's emergence on offense as a scorer. Averaging 15 PPG so far in conference play after only 6 PPG in non-conference.

Gazelas drop off is amazing.
