The Yale coach just signed a 10yr extension so that doesn't look good for us.

Welp, here we go! I'm not sure if I like the idea of another lengthy coaching search process and the staff and player turnover it would likely involve - would MSU be wise to promote Dan Russell to HC and see if he can continue what Danny started? He had 20+ win seasons every year he coached at Casper College so does appear to have a pretty good pedigree as a Head Coach.

I would second that motion right away. I think Danny brought him in as a next step guy. He has a great track record and is the reason several of the guys we have had the past couple of years have come to bozeman through his contacts. I know they got to do all their research for a new coach, but a fast quick decision here might be the best option. Or does Danny take him with him? Or do you see any guys follow him south from the team? UGG gonna be a long day in the waiting.

The weather is great, more pay, career move and you can take a back seat to Gonzaga, St. Mary's. BYU and U San Fran did I leave anything else out?

And GO CATS!

It would take AN AWFUL LOT for us to move back to the once golden state. It would be a severe family issue and then only temporary. We left california for a reason.

I agree. Double my pay would not get me to move to CA.

Dany must have liked living in CA. Otherwise this job change does not make sense.
Hopefully Danny demands a triple or quadruple in pay and then U San Diego balks.

I couldn’t find anything verifying this. Where do you see it?

Just this tweet from yesterday. Nothing confirmed other than this that I have found.

MSU hasn't had a coach not get "fired' since Stu Starner in 1990.

Not sure I understand your comment. You have a double negative in the sentence so maybe just the way the sentence reads is confusing, but are you saying an MSU coach has not been fired since 1990? I would say both Fish and Huse were fired.

I'm saying the last coach that wasn't fired at MSU was Stu Starner, the rest have been fired or forced to resign.

I don't think my sentence is a double negative, we haven't had a coach NOT get fired since Stu Starner but yea it was worded horribly.

Which goes a long way in explaining why MSU hadn't been in the NCAA Tournament since 1996 up until this year. If Sprinkle is moving on it hurts a whole lot less with him having been able to get that gigantic monkey off the back of the MBB program!

I think Danny is gone, he likes the California weather and not a real fan of MT winters. I think Dan Russell is the most logical choice. He is a great guy, strong recruiter and can keep the ship sailing straight.

IF, Danny moves on, Congratulations to him. It is good to have coaches other programs covet.

Speaking as just an outside observer, I would be happy with Dan Russell taking over. I admit I do not have any inside information about his coaching skills however.

I would also be okay with Chris Haslam.

The commitment yesterday is odd. Seems like a kid looking to come here would wait until coach made his decision

My thoughts as well. Seems like, just maybe, Sprinkle is staying. I have no idea if he is or not, but it seems strange that he would recruit these kids (transfers included) and then leave.

He has to keep recruiting though in case the job isn't his. If he waits to long this kid could have jump else where and then what? I think he is gone unfortunately, but he isn't leaving the kitchen bare. I think he would have talked to the guys below him and said hey this kid is what we are looking for if I leave or stay. I would have liked to have poached the kid over the hill that just dumped his name into the portal though, but his kid looks to be solid. Either way we will be fine and hopefully our AD realizes we have two guys on the bench that would be great candidates for replacement. Russell or Haslam would both be great head coaches I believe. I just don't see both staying though if they were both to apply for the position and one gets it and the other doesn't. Time will tell!
