WBB Signee – Dylan Philip

FYI. She led her Ellensburg WA team to the class 2A state championship win last night and an undefeated season. She was also the regular season conference MVP as well as being named the state tournament MVP. She’ll bring some much needed athleticism to next year’s Bobcats.
A side note, I sure hope Binford has Dylan’s
freshman little sister, Jamison, on the recruitment radar. She was named 1st team all-conference point guard. Little sis is a dynamo!

Just love seeing the line of new recruits Coach Bin and the program is bringing in. The posting of Marah Dykstra in another thread was equally impressive.
And after you see the film on Grace Beasley, the UW transfer, you can see a whole new level of leadership and fire on the court next year.

Do you foresee Beasley’s role as spelling White and occasionally playing the #2 with her (similar to Van Sickle’s court time this year) or being the starter at the #2 ahead of Beattie?

I think you gotta keep Beattie on the court. She makes fewer mistakes than the others. She's solid.

Good question……I look forward to seeing how Coach handles it. I expect Bin will try a number of combinations at the start of the season to see how Grace “fits in” with a group that will be starting their 3rd year of playing together. Will the new chemistry blend easily…always fun to see how the dynamics emerge. But it certainly helps that she has been sitting on the bench and if you watched she was constantly supporting, encouraging and interacting with the team as they came off the court. Knowing Grace a bit and seeing her play….she comes in with a lot of basketball savvy and maturity…she has shown leadership on the court but can she do that here and how is that accepted in the new team environment? Coach Bin always seems to make it work based on the past with players like Lundberg, Nordgaard, Freji when they came in. IMO….It will likely be the strongest 3 guard combination in the league. And I could easily see playing some “small ball” at times! Some things I have observed about Grace is that she has all the mental intensity of Darian….she shoots a better 3 ball and isn’t afraid to shoot it….she sees the floor better and distributes the ball well. She is not as fast as Darian, doesn’t take it inside as much, and certainly can’t compete with Darian’s quickness on defense…but even in those categories she is no slouch. I know I didn’t answer your question directly but just some more details for pondering.

Thanks and you did answer my question quite well. Yes, I have been watching her on the bench and concur with you on how enthusiastic and involved she is. Also, there is a seemingly very good repoire between her and her new teammates & coaches.
Back to Dylan, she will definitely be challenged to break into next year’s excellent guard rotation of White, Beattie, Beasley, and an improving Ranson.

100%. Some players’ value comes from what they don’t do: don’t foul; don’t turn it over; don’t get out of position on D; don’t take low percentage shots. It’s an under appreciated trait in hoops.

All true, mature basketball intelligence, good court and situation awareness.. Also when it comes to her play in the paint, she plays taller than the 5' 9" she's listed as being.

I see Grace as taking Ashley’s place in the 2nd lineup. I’ll bet Coach is looking at strengthening her 2-team 10-player rotation. I think Gabby is a senior? Lindsey Hein will be stepping into the rotation somewhere, or doing minutes with both teams depending on the opponents. A lot of 6’5”-ish players showed up in the Big Sky this year. And who is going to get lost in the reshuffling? Mia Hughes seems to have gone from a fill-in “motivational” starter to the doghouse. Is she going to contend? That 3-4 spot is getting pretty crowded. Kelsey Stumne?

Dylan’s AAU team, the Northwest Blazers, won a national championship.
