Game time

My son and I are on our way to Bozeman to watch the guys play Northern Arizona.

He asked a question I can't answer, why is the game at noon and not prime time?

My first thought was TV but since all games are on ESPN+ I don't think that is the reason.

Anyone know?

NAU travel home, possibly.

Maybe an agreement between the schools to get the kids home a little sooner? The women's game between NAU and MSU tips off at noon as well.

Yeah, it's totally to get NAU back home at a decent time. I'm pretty sure they fly into Phoenix and bus to Flagstaff.

Well, it’s almost game time.

No way they win, unless we lose.

Some kid won $1111 in that Rib and Chop house shootout. Nice job. He didn't have the guns to come anywhere near the full court shot.

Cats up by 6 at the half and the ladies are up 14 in Flagstaff. Let's get two wins today, Go Cats!

What a chaotic offense the Cats are "running" the last 5 minutes or so.

Today's game is the 1st game I've been able to watch in its entirety. I have to assume the team I saw today, especially in the 2nd half, isn't the same team it's been most of the year. A lot of sloppy play on both sides of the ball and way too many questionable shots early in the shot clock, and taking way too long on others, even with a small lead. With under 3 to play the Cats have now left guys wide open for 3 on at least 5 possessions.

Never in doubt! Women looking like they'll hang on at NAU.

Question regarding the Women: With 14 seconds remaining a foul on Moochi. Then with 13 seconds a foul on Van Sickle, nau drops 3 FTs? Then up by 3 and 8 seconds left I believe and another foul on the LADIES? Were those ill placed fouls. I am following Gamecast so there are no explanation. Should have been listening.

The first foul by Mocchi was fine as MSU had a foul to give at that point. The second foul was a mistake by Van Sickle, she tried to contest the shot but hit the shooter on the forearm. The third foul I thought was a poor call by the officials, as the same NAU player pump faked on the 3 and then jumped way forward into the MSU player to create contact. Fortunately in jumping forward she came across the 3-point line so only got 2 free throws. Well done to Darian for making the fouls a moot point by knocking in her free throws at the end!

As for the men's game: That got way too exciting at the end. Their point guard is a lot like Bishop. Down the stretch he drew a crowd, then they just kicked it out to a wide open three point shooter and they hit every one. Meanwhile Bello was missing in close. I'll say this, we don't win either game this week without RaeQuan Battle. Today he had 2 blocked shots and he hit a huge jumper with under a minute. He's definitely our X factor. Bishop does a lot of things well and as he goes so does our team, but he is absolutely not the guy you want on the free throw line with the game hanging in the balance. What he did to get to the free throw line however, won the game for us because their stud guard messed up big time heading back the other way. We got a little lucky there.

NAU has a pretty nice looking team. They're going to be a problem for somebody in the tournament.

20 win season!!! Imma bask in that for a long time. Next stretch is going to be tough-at EWU and then SUU.

Great win for the women, to come back after that disappointment in Cedar City. They still looked tired, but finally dropped some shots. Ava gave them a few pretty good minutes, bolstered by an accidental bank shot, and she drilled two free throws. Taylor looked useful in the first part of the game, then was noticeably hesitant, and I don’t know if she played in the second half. Kola played well but got in foul trouble. Gabby was strong inside, even though outsized again, and absolutely drilled her three point shots once she got going. Limardo (Limbardo to the announcers) took a lot of bumps and bruises and got called for a foul when she got raked across the face. The game got off to a bad start with two video reviews for flagrant fouls, but after what looked like warnings from the lead official, the teams backed off some on the fouling, at least until late. A tough last couple of games, at the only two schools where we have an elevation disadvantage. Probably good to go 1-1, but oh so close to 2-0. Good, tough team.

In other important games, Weber trails Idaho by 13 at halftime and it could've been worse, as they got down 20 but went on a 7-0 run to end the half.

Well it’s a win, but there’s something missin with this team. Darian is an awesome player, but with a little discipline in her game and more emphasis on team, she could be the best in MSU history. It pains me that the other 4 MSU players on the court are more focused on watching what Darian is going to do than playing their own game. I often see us going on huge runs when Darian is getting a rest, because the other players have to contribute. In my opinion, they’re either going to win in Boise or go home the first day!

Felt like Groundhog Day as our double-digit lead in the 4th started to evaporate. Several mental mistakes in the last minutes that made things closer than they needed to be. Gritty win.

NAU’s #13 got away with two flagrant fouls, especially one where she flat out clocked Ranson.

Thank you. I didn’t want to be the first one to point that out. She peeked at Ava first, and then just brought that ball up with that elbow firmly planted underneath her chin. I thought she might have knocked her cold. Was she the same one that tried to give Katelyn a facelift?
