These are huge. I believe Sprinkle has things going in the right direction and is a rising star in the profession. Good to lock him down for a few years and hopefully he does what I believe he can do. Then maybe MSU can pay him what he deserves to keep him in Bozeman beyond that.

As for Binford, she's a little more proven and I think this is an even bigger win. Hopefully at the end of the 2025 season she's kept the program on an upward trajectory and some great things have happened. She'll be 52 at that point and MAYBE she'd stick around for the rest of her career.

Smart move! Sounds like other teams might’ve been sniffing around! Sprinkle is based on his potential, but Binford is a proven winner.

Confident that if interested she could almost double her compensation. Happy to know she wants to stay in Bozeman!

These extensions are great for the coaches but let's not forget that contracts don't mean much for the schools. Heck, Choate also signed a four year extension less than year before he left for Texas.

Agreed, but it takes a program with deeper pockets to buy out a contract, and I would think at this point the schools who would be hiring Sprinkle or Binford away might not have that kind of cash on hand.

I'd respectfully disagree with some of that. I don't know what the Sprinkle and Binford's buyout clauses are, but Boise State was certainly willing to pay to get Choate released and I have no doubt they'd do the same to get Binford in the future.

Here are the all-time winningest coaches at MSU.

1. Brick Breeden, 1935-54 283
2. Tricia Binford, 2005-current 270
3. Mick Durham, 1990-06 246
4. G. Ott Romney, 1922-28 145
5. Schubert Dyche, 1928-35 110

Three out of the five coaches have something (field, building) at MSU named after them. When Binford becomes the all time leader in wins next year, what should we name after her?

Don't you think she could be head coach there?

I think the point is that the football program has deep pockets and could afford Jeff's buyout. I don't know that the women's basketball program would be as willing to pony up the cash unless they were absolutely sure she was going to be a program changer.

I guess we'll have to see what the potential buyout is. I think the athletic department at Boise is probably capable of whatever the cash buyout would be though. I hope Tricia is here to stay and will retire a Bobcat.

I'm not saying this to disrespect female sports, however, it would be highly unlikely that a coach is poached from another school with any significant buyout clause. This is simply because the Women's teams generally produce a negative cash stream. In other words, they cost more than they make.

Great analysis...... put one up without football! Also an analysis not 13 years old! I don’t know if you can put a dollar value on how much positive press a school gets from something like Tori Martell’s national exposure last weekend. Lots have changed since 2013..... I don’t want to disrespect male sports, but our WBB program has had a lot of success compared to the men’s! Not mention revenue from an NCAA appearance!

That may be true in a general sense nationwide, but the MSU women's basketball team wasn't too far behind the men's in attendance in 2019-20, 2,802 per game for the men and 2,322 per game for the women. That was the only year I looked at, but it's cool that both teams are relatively popular compared with what other Big Sky teams attract. Obviously, per game attendance is only one part of the revenue flow for the teams. There are many other ways college teams make money; donations, licensing fees, TV contracts, student fees, playing money games, etc,. I'm sure the Bobcat men's basketball team makes more than the women's, but I'll bet the women's team is doing pretty well financially. I know I only donate regularly to the football and women's basketball teams right now. Someday, I'd like to see how all that money shakes out for the Bobcats. Just looking at the popularity of the athletic teams, I'd say the Cats are probably doing pretty well in the most popular sports.

In the event Binford is relieved of her duties, the school will continue to pay the remaining unpaid portion of her contract. If Binford were to leave the school for another coaching position before her contract ends, she would have to pay the school according to the same terms. That amount could be covered by her next employer.

That would be the Trish Binford court at the Worthington Arena inside the Brick Breeden Fieldhouse.

Great to have these coaches signed for four more years.

Sprinkle is unproven but has had a very positive first couple of years. A friend saw him at lunch shortly after his higher and heard him say (as close as I can recall) "the last 15 Big Sky Champions have led the league in either defense, or rebounding, or both. That is what I will try to do". His first two teams have been far far better defensively than any of those under Coach Fish.

As for Tricia Binford, she is a winner and her teams are outstanding representatives for MSU. This year's team was ridiculously young yet was in the mix for the Big Sky Championship. Coach Bin is a class act and already among the best coaches in MSU history, in any sport. She has built a PROGRAM and we are very lucky to have her in Bozeman.
