WBB vs North Dakota

Post by BelgradeBobcat » Sun Dec 06, 2020 3:28 pm

Game is on Pluto right now. We roll out Martell, White, Jackson, Bad Bear, and Limardo. 1 Senior, 3 Sophomores, and Freshman. First off the bench was Deden-a true freshman. Almost all our shots have been threes. And these freshmen aren't shy about putting it up. Great to see Van Sickle playing again. This is a whole different team and different style so far. Up 23-16 at the end of the first.

Ladies looking good on the perimeter. Good ball movement and team play. Great hustle on D. UND has a big size advantage, but are not good ball handlers, and our scrappiness getting turnovers is making up for some of our lack of rebounding.

UND also has 3 tackles and 12 yards rushing on 4 carries in the first half.

Hope Martell can keep hitting 3s like this all year. 5 so far today.

Can't make up my mind as to which is better - 55-21 or 48-14.

Looks like Skye Lindsay is not suited up. Bad Bear has 3 fouls. After that our "bigs" are all true freshmen. They're tall but not big. So rebounding appears to be the biggest weakness so far. Our offense looks like what you see in the NBA. Lots of drive and kick with three or four perimeter players ready to catch and shoot on the arc. It's very different not having the inside presence of Freije, Smith, and Braxton.

And now it's the Darian White show. 6 straight points to open the 2nd half.

Looked like we were gonna run away from them, but White and Martel took a breather and UND kinda got back into it. Ranson and Beattie have very quick triggers-maybe a little too quick. Up 62-49 going into the 4th quarter.

Cats stopped hitting 3s - other than Martell's 2 for 3, haven't been many made. ND going inside more.

Tori Martell just hit her 8th three which I believe is a school record. UND got to 7 then Janssen and Martell hit back-to-back threes.

ND increases their tackle stat.

North Dakota brings their rugby team, but the Bobcats withstand and win 84-72. Pretty sloppy at times, but that's what first games are for. Without looking a the stats UND probably outrebounded us by a mile, but UND also had a lot of turnovers. They were big, we were quicker.

Quick > Big

What a great game for Martell. Very cool to see the lone senior start her season like that. Yes, it'll be an interesting stat sheet.

Post of the day. Do you have any stats for the full game? They rolled up a goodly number of tackles in the second half.

This game should have been a real confidence builder against an inside team. With Skye Lindsay out and Kola Bad Bear only playing nine minutes due to foul trouble, I thought Taylor Janssen really helped us out. Katelynn Limardo and Lexie Deden are ready to play. Limardo adds a new dimension as we’ve never had anyone of her size who can play all over the court. Deden is so smooth with that turn-around jumper — that’s money.

I thought Jennifer Curl also had eight threes in a game. If not, then she had seven, and Tori broke her record. Who held the record? Katie Bussey?

First game...... lots of room to grow! No inside game...... 40 3 pointers and horrific clock management! Team has crazy potential and confidence that’s going to carry them far, but need someone willing to reign in the freshmen and Madison Jackson. The lack of discipline was just hard to understand. Don’t get me wrong, team is going to be amazing....... but got to have a player step up that’s going to be the unquestionable leader.

"Martell’s eight made 3-pointers breaks a record shared by Amy Meckling (Air Force in 2003), Brandi Lewis (Idaho State, 2003) and Hannah Caudill (Eastern Washington, 2017).

"The outburst marks the 26th time a Big Sky player has hit eight or more 3-pointers in a game. The single-game league record is nine, held by eight different players. Idaho’s Taylor Pierce hit nine 3-pointers in a single game three different times in her career."

I forgot all about MSU being on a winning streak. I guess there's one sorta good thing about the Dance getting called off.

That’s a whale of an accomplishment since about eight were on the road and two on a neutral court. Keep on going!!
