Current downtime has me digitizing some of the Starner years VHS tapes from my dad's archives...
The Starner Years - 1985-86 Montana State Bobcat Mens Basketball team goes up against rival University of Montana in a March 1, 1986 battle in Brick Breeden Fieldhouse. Wild capacity crowd watched the Bobcats try to build steam headed into the Big Sky Conference tournament.

Great video! Love those old uniforms and logo, and the benches back then were...actually benches!

I'm pretty sure I was there...
First thing I thought of was "Sit down Montie!"
Also, on a side note, I think Greg Walters was the most improved player of the bunch from when he arrived on campus to graduation.

That was fun to watch. I don't have this full game video.

You were on fire that night. Well done!! My aunt took me to Bozeman the following year for my first Bobcat basketball game. You guys played Nevada-Reno. I think you won by about 30. I still remember Kral trying 3 or 4 times to dunk after putting the ball between his legs in mid air. I don't think he ever was able to. Still a great memory from my childhood. The fieldhouse was electric that night as well.

Awesome! I was there and hated every minute of it. I was 9, we were in one of the last rows up behind the Bobcat bench. It was absolutely shoulder to shoulder and I couldn't see a thing! What an atmosphere!

This is incredible, you are a saint for giving us all something to do during the pandemic since I just finished NetFlix. Announced crowd of over 8,000 people, that is insane - and they were loud and into it the entire game. Love that Stu had to get on the mic twice to ask the crowd to settle down!

Domako, you and Kral look so skinny compared to Krysko and the other Griz forwards and centers, no wonder Krysko got 18 rebounds.

For sure, I was a sophomore playing out of position really, at the power forward. Walters guarded Krysko because I couldn't at my size, so I guarded their bigger, less talented center McBride. We had huge mismatch problems, but so did they. They either played zone, which wasn't smart against us or the had to play man and have Krysko guard me. As you can see, that didn't work out for them.
We beat them one week later in Reno for the Big Sky tournament championship. Bye Felicia, and Larry never played in the NCAA tournament all four years.

You were unbelievable in this game Tom. Talk about a team peaking at the right time!

That was a BLAST for me to watch. I lived in Dallas in the mid to late 1980s and never really got to see most of these guys play much, other than a few highlights here and there. Fun “run and gun” group with some really good players. Over 8000 fans at the game-can’t imagine how loud that was.
BTW, I already knew this because I did catch Larry K a few times in Boise and of course later in the NBA. But he really was an animal. I remember saying when the griz hired him as their coach that if he got his players to play half as hard as he did, they would be very good.

My son and I took in the entire tourney in Reno. It was a blast, and yes, pretty darn loud.

Tony Hampton was a neighbor in the dorms one year. Wild seeing him again.

This team gave No. 1 seed St Johns all they could handle in the NCAA Tournament. Lost the game 83-74. It was a battle.
