WBB vs Sac State
This game might be one NOT to miss. Not because I think it will be close-I would be extremely surprised if it was. I don't want to seem too over confident. These are college kids and huge upsets can and do happen. But because of Sac State's chosen style of play we could see something extraordinary. MSU has scored 101, 98, and 92 points the last three games...two of those games were against teams that play a lot of zone and generally slow it down. Sac State plays up tempo. They jack threes early in the shot clock, they like to press and cause turnovers, they do hockey style line changes. In the rare instances that teams have tried to press the Bobcats-it hasn't gone well for the opponent. Watching a team try to press Darian White for a whole game...this could be epic.
MSU has announced that tickets to these last two home games are only $5. Y'all gotta come out and watch this team.

Sac State is always fun to watch. MSU beat them by 37 in Sacramento so it should be a blowout on paper, but you never know...I remember in either '02 or '03, Sac State came into Bozeman winless in the second to last weekend of conference play and upset the Bobcats, which ended up costing MSU the chance to host the tournament that year. I'll miss tomorrow but excited to travel down for Senior Day on Saturday!BelgradeBobcat wrote: ↑Wed Feb 26, 2020 8:10 pmThis game might be one NOT to miss. I remember that game all too well. Patera started all the seniors instead of the regular lineup. They quickly got behind by about 10 points and never recovered. Sac State had lost 44 straight Big Sky games. Hubris.MSU01 wrote:Sac State is always fun to watch. Another interesting tid-bit about Sac State. Their sophomore center Tiana Johnson is from Kalispell. Her dad is Tryg Johnson who played for the Bobcats back in the early 80's. I met him last year when Sac State was here-nice guy.

Wow! Thanks for sharing that. I remember Tryg well. I didn’t even realize she was a Montana girl let alone Tryg’s daughter.BelgradeBobcat wrote: ↑Wed Feb 26, 2020 9:59 pmAnother interesting tid-bit about Sac State. I was noticing that. Tiana has stepped up and scored over 20 points in three of their last four games.BelgradeBobcat wrote: ↑Wed Feb 26, 2020 9:59 pmAnother interesting tid-bit about Sac State. Sac St leading rebounder 6’3” Nicolas girl has missed four games in a row now but Tiana and others seem to have picked up nicely. And I haven’t heard if Nicolas will be back this game.
A few weeks ago I looked at the stats and Sac St was leading the conference in the number of 3pt shots taken, were 3rd in conference in 3pt shots made but 8th in percent made....at only 30%. Haven’t looked at stats this week. But as noted it looks like shots will be flying up from anywhere when they cross the half court line. Let’s just hope they don’t get on track to shoot a career high percentage from the arc. If Nicolas girl is not back I would expect them to spread it out, drive to middle and feed it back out for an open 3 ball from the arc mainly because it doesn’t look like they have the size underneath to compete against our big folks.
I didn’t see the first game, but just looking at playing time it looks like 7 players are getting nearly all the time. In years past I thought i remember them using platoon substituting to keep fresh legs for press and fast break.
Defense from the arc will likely be the key again.

Although I’m sure the confetti was cool, I’m perplexed that we celebrated a conference title without winning the conference title. Today, the worst we can do is a tie. Things do look very promising, but I hope the team understands that it hasn’t achieved its goal for the season. The next 4 games are all going to be difficult. Celebrating like this 2 weeks before the season ends could be a challenge in keeping our edge. The Seniors are going to have to show leadership and keep the focus on being the outright winner of the BSC and the tourney champion. Also like to add in getting at least one win in the NCAA’s!

The Lady Cats did win at least a share of the Big Sky title last Saturday. If they lost their last 4 games and NAU or UI won all their remaining games, it would be a shared title.Catlady wrote: ↑Thu Feb 27, 2020 6:05 amAlthough I’m sure the confetti was cool, I’m perplexed that we celebrated a conference title without winning the conference title. I think the celebration was not only appropriate but smart. It was a sweep of the Griz so the celebration was on anyways.
My guess is Binford has told them that remaining games are resume builders. Their goal is to make it to the NCAA tournament. Their seeding will be affected by how they play their remaining games. If they want a potentially winnable game, they must win out. The bigger the margin of victory, the better the resume. It's great motivation.

Agreed. Shared championships count, so why not celebrate when that is clinched especially when it's against your rival with 5 days before you play again. I am expecting them to come out strong for the remaining four games. I'm not sure if it's possible for MSU to get up to a 12 seed at this point if they can win out, but doing so would be a major boost to their chances of winning an NCAA game since 12 seeds play the first round on a neutral court instead of on their opponent's home court.rivercat wrote: ↑Thu Feb 27, 2020 9:29 amThe Lady Cats did win at least a share of the Big Sky title last Saturday. Yeah, I think the possibility of 12 seed is remote but not impossible. They have to finish really strong and they likely will need a little help from upsets of teams currently ranked higher.MSU01 wrote: ↑Thu Feb 27, 2020 9:58 amAgreed. These ladies will NOT lose all of their last 4 games. You can bank on that.
And I loved the ladies cutting down the nets in front of the remnant of Griz fans in the stands.

And the ovation they received at the men's game.
While registering my vehicles the assessor stated "I have had both Cat and Griz students and alums work for me and the Griz end up working under the direction of the Cats."

Re: WBB vs Sac State
Sac State is always a fun team to watch. A few years ago when we won the regular season championship but then tanked in the first game at the tournament in Reno I was stuck there for four days. Both MSU teams one and DONE. So my little group decided to adopt Sac State. We had so much fun pulling for them. This team presses all night, shoots 3s all night and is just fun to watch. They DID make quite a run in the tournament, so at least it helped to have someone to pull for after both Cat teams tanked. Sure hope that doesn't happen this year in Boise!!

No upset this year! MSU up 58-31 at the half and the only question is if they'll go over 100 points again.

I think the better question might be how many minutes left in 4th when they hit 100

They came close to doing it in the 3rd quarter! This is the best MSU basketball team I've ever watched. Too bad they can't loan a few points to the men.
