MBB at Idaho State

ISU is like most every other Big Sky team. Totally schizo. They beat EWU, got blown out by Sac State, lost their last three, but have been very close in most games. They don't always win at home, but they're always tough at home. They lost to Weber in OT and last night lost to the griz by three.

Their new coach, Ryan Looney, was rumored to be in the running for the MSU job. He led Point Loma to the D-2 finals last year and he's won a ton as a D-2 head coach at Point Loma and Seattle Pacific.

So our ISU game, like all Big Sky games, could go either way.

Here's an interesting tid-bit about ISU. They no longer play basketball in Holt Arena. All their games are in Reed Gym, which looks to me like a Montana Class A or AA high school gym. Their women have played there for many years, but up until last season the men played a lot of games in Holt. https://www.idahostatejournal.com/membe ... 5a290.html

They played in Reed for about four years in the early 2000s. I have been there a couple of times with our volleyball team. It’s about like Shroyer, but taller. No wider or longer. Runout areas at the end of the court are pretty hazardous. Locker rooms were not placed for varsity sports. They said it seats 3,000. It is “intimate” to say the least. If they ever have a good team again, it will burst at the seams. But it sounds like they are looking toward a new facility. All in all, a pretty good plan I think.

Big opportunity for the guys today; any road sweep is huge in this league. These are the type of games fish's teams would often fall flat in, but ive no doubt we'll play competitively today. Hope we can make a few plays and win it at the end!

Not scoring well, tied at half. Pretty much like the second game of a road trip.

Bellach getting some playing time.

Cats had 16 seconds at the end of the half down 2 looking like they were clearing out for Frey. Ran a pick and roll to Fernandez who drove the lane and scored to tie.

Schizo is a good assessment. On one possession they look very composed and execute well. On the next, they look lost and play like a random pick-up team at the park. Of course, we have a tendency to do that too.

Looking like the second game of a road trip. Defense holding them in the game.

Down 2 with 16 secs remaining looking like they were clearing out for Frey to go 1 on 1. He ran a pick and roll with Fernandez who took the ball to the rim and scored right down the middle. Nice play. They need to give Harald some rest...its starting to hurt his shooting both from 3 and from the line.

Belo with no fouls at halftime. His defense is pretty soft to keep from fouling. Hopefully he can ratchet it up a bit in the 2nd.

Looks like a Saturday game in the big sky. A little ragged, nobody can extend a lead, will likely come down to rebounding and making 1 or 2 more plays at the end. Get it fellas!

How heavily does one have to drink to enjoy watching these Bobcats on the road. Turnovers, missed layups, weird fouls...and we're still tied.

Bigs and Adamu are carrying us now
up by 11 with 3:22 to go

Sprinkle gave Frey and Kirby a blow, they come back in, and everything clicks. We're up 14 with 1:23 to go. Kirby hit our only jump shot of the entire second half, everything else is in the paint.
ISU can't buy one-even from the line. Lucky us.

Kirby, belo and adamu just out- worked and physically dominated this game down the stretch.

Frey has been absolutely terrible shooting it the last two games...both wins. Go figure.

So good it apparently broke the ISU replay system. Was kind of fun seeing that again and again every time they tried t play a replay.
