Looking at the stats. It appears as though UNC had a good game plan defensive wise.

Shut down Frey and Rickets from shooting 3's
and UNC only had 5 turnovers to our 12

Ricketts didn't take a single shot. Weird, since he's the team's pure shooter.
He is a great shooter, but if you can't get your own shot off it doesn't matter. Harry is better, but
he can be taken out of a game too since we have at least two players on the floor that can't score
and can even be left open on the perimeter. I would rather have a player like Adamu who can't shoot
from the outside, but can create his own shot more. Belo is getting better, and we will get better as
he progresses too.

We will be challenged as a team until we get more players that can stretch the defense more. We are giving
ourself a chance to win every night because we play so much better on the defensive end. I think that we are
actually playing better than our talent level which makes me optimistic about the future.

This for sure--even saw it vs Sac State until he finally got some open looks vs their zone in the 2nd half. I don't think he took a single shot in the first half.

He's strictly a catch and shoot guy.

So Ricketts has no move (pump fake, dribble-sidestep) to shake himself free and/or a slow release? He has to be left wide open to get his shot off?

Definitely does not have a slow release. He's not the most athletic guy on the court anyway and is slowed by a calf issue that will probably not fully heal this year, so he is catch-and-shoot for sure.

Guys--Nobody is saying he's garbage. That's his role--typically he does it well. When teams focus on him to take that away his weakness (can't create his own shot) shows. Everyone has a weakness--that is his.

You guys act like creating your own shot is a piece cake at the D1 level - it ain’t.

Exactly. That’s why not every player can do it.

Let's look at it another way. If guys have trouble getting good looks on their own, the offense and other players need
to be better getting good looks for its best offensive players. The problem is not just the players, it can be how you are
using those players.

We are well scouted at this point, I think everyone knows that. It is the players and coaches jobs to counter what other
teams scheme against us and stay productive offensively. It is always a work in process.

On a humorous note...it ain't that hard to get shots off at the D1 level.

Well, no, anyone can launch up a shot with a dude a few steps in front of you.

Just for reference. Through 14 games Ladan has taken:
58 3's
9 2's
8 FT's

That's a spot up catch and shoot player. Again...NOT A KNOCK on him--that's his role.

Exactly. It's a work in progress for the offense as a whole and we need to develop weapons at every position to take pressure off of Harry and Laden.

:D Was there, saw those. And way more than a few of those went through the basket. That’s the tricky part.

Not everyone is 6'10" with the ability to shoot from 20 feet or deeper...

I would think Sprinkle could work with Ricketts for a while and run a play to get him to curl around high screens with or without the ball and get a shot off. Hell that was Danny's calling card!
