Conference Deep Dive

Post by SonOfaGriz » Thu Feb 21, 2019 4:10 pm

http://www.montana-mint.com/2019/02/21/ ... cats-rise/

The article has reviews for all eleven teams. Here's the cliff notes for Bobcat fans:
-MSU is moving up among the second tier of the Big Sky----Hall getting others involved via pass is a huge development.
-only UM and MSU are peaking at the right time. EWU just lost their leading scorer (Jacob Davison, time table for return unclear), Weber has injury issues and has dropped a few bad games, and Northern Colorado is down to essentially one scorer.
-Even without a strong tournament run, there's a good chance this is Coach Brian Fish's best season in Bozeman, based on the remaining schedule (best meaning in conference best)
-MSU winning a couple games with defense is huge.

What am I missing?

*EWU loses at SUU and Weber* loses at Sac State-even though they have Braxton back. So the teams right behind us and ahead of us in the standings lose tonight. There's still an opportunity for our team to do something here.

I just think people are very reluctant to really invest themselves in this team, knowing how MSU basketball has ended their seasons and post seasons over the years. 4 of the next 5 are against teams below us in the standings...but 3 of those are on the road-and all the teams coming up look like they're playing pretty well. Nobody we play will be just going through the motions-waiting for the season to end.

*looks like Weber was missing Jerrick Harding who is out with a sprained ankle-so that loss makes a little more sense. EWU was missing their leading scorer Jacob Davison.

The close of the season is a huge deal for the Bobcats. Along with Montana, they're the only two teams who look like they're playing their best basketball headed into the last leg of the season. Finishing the year in 2nd or 3rd is possible for the Bobcats, and they have a schedule that's preferable outside of the game in Missoula.

The postseason tournaments are a real issue, but if the team heads into the conference tournament with a bye, a good seed, and winning 8 of their last 10, I think that's a different team we're looking at.
