Thought I would start a single thread to throw out possible names for MSU's open Men's basketball Coach position.

Has anyone seen what the coach of the University of Alaska Fairbanks has been doing?

Not ever going to happen especially after he pissed off all the Indians in the state.

Seth Greenberg?

Dirden is an obvious choice at this stage, but I'd really interested the search.

sorry I posted that at the exact same time as catblitz. my "?" was about the comment of pissing off all the Indians in the state.

Having visited Fairbanks, I'd say he's freezing his ass off most of the time. The team was certainly a lot more fun to watch when he was the coach, even when the team wasn't any good. This won't happen, but I don't think it would be a bad move by any means assuming Mick were willing to come back here.

And we aren't going to get a former power conference head coach like Greenberg to come here. He's probably getting paid about 10 times the MSU head coach salary to work at ESPN right now.

Mick said that he didn't recruit Indians because they di not stay in school for four years.

How about Rod Jensen, Ray Lopes, Ken Bone, Tommy Connor or Scott Garson.

Say no to the Bone. [-X

I'd hire Sprinkle if he were to apply.

Steve Keller.

Before you all jump on and say he only coaches NAIA and that's where Huse's roots are, the guy can flat out coach and recruit. He has taken Western to heights nobody ever dreamed about, taking them to the National Tourney 4 years in a row, in his short tenure. 122 wins in his first 6 years, taking a program that was bottom wrung of the Frontier. Went to the Elite 8 last year with a team that had no business even making it to the tourney after they had lost so much talent the year before.

No doubt he's a great coach, but not sure his personality would mesh well at msu.

Paul Westphal was an NAIA coach once and he coached in the NBA and in D-1 so don't discount him.

It was interesting to watch the Fields press conference video from today. The most interesting thing to me was that when asked about the hiring process for the new coach, he seemed to indicate that they are looking to fill the job quickly and might not go through the full process they have in the past with publicization of a list of finalists and public forums during the interview process. It makes me wonder if Fields has one or more guys in mind already who he wants to go after.

I have no idea why he was fired from Virginia Tech, but how about James Johnson?

I'd guess finishing dead last in the ACC might have something to do with it!

I'd like to see MSU bring in someone who emphasizes physical basketball. A core of rebounding, pounding it inside and defense.

A slow defensive team like Huse had? ;)
