Montana State women fall at Sac, 107-95

The Montana State women’s basketball team fell in its Big Sky Conference opener at Sacramento State 107-95 on Thursday night.
The Hornets hit 14-of-41 3-point attempts and forced 24 MSU turnovers thanks to 16 steals in the win.
Fantasia Hilliard scored 26 points and dished out 12 assists. The sophomore guard hit a buzzer-beater in Bozeman last season to lift Sac to a win. Shanti Smith scored 24 points and Alle Moreno poured in 24 points and dished out six assists for Sac. The trio combined to hit 8-of-25 3-pointers.
Montana State shot 51 percent from the floor (38-75) and 55 percent from downtown (6-11) but hit just 13-of-25 free throws.
Jackie Elliott led the Bobcat charge with a career-high 25 points. The Billings Central product was 10-of-15 from the floor, 1-of-1 from downtown and 4-of-5 from the line. She also dished out five assists and grabbed four rebounds. Senior forward Ashley Brumwell had 19 poitns and eight rebounds. She was 8-of-12. Jasmine Hommes shot 7-12 and finisiehd with 15 points and five assists.
MSU made 38 shots, Sac made 37. The difference was the eight-point advantage Sac had from downtown and the six-point advantage from the free throw line.
Sac came into this game averaging 14 3-point makes in 42 attempts per game. The Hornets were fourth in the country with 92 points per game. The high score is no surprise.
MSU plays in Flagstaff at Northern Arizona on Saturday night. The Lumberjacks lost 87-67 to defending league champion Montana on Thursday.
