MSU playing CS-Northridge. It probably goes without saying that the game is being played in Mount Pleasant, Michigan. MSU trails 53-48 in the second half.

like last year the difference so far is shooting. we're shooting 38% and they're shooting 51%. we've bombed 23 threes...they've shot six. 23 threes in 30 minutes of play...

Caught the last little bit on the radio. Had 0% expectation that we would win and was pleasantly surprised to hear them comeback from 13 down to take a one point lead and not the least bit surprised that they blew said lead in the final minute.
The radio guy-bless his heart because he HAS to watch this team and he's probably trying to find something positive to talk about so he doesn't go to his motel room and slit his wrists-talked about the loss as a moral victory. It's a moral victory to only lose by 1 to a Big West team that was 14-17 last season and fired their coach. Of course we also just lost to another team from California that was 4-24 (or whatever) last season, but hey-it was by only 5 points. So we're really rolling now.
We have to play the host team, Central Michigan, tomorrow so that's most certainly going to be a loss, then we play Austin Peay in this tournament who are also coming off a losing season...so maybe there's a chance for a moral victory there too!
Then we get to play Northridge again, but in Bozeman. After a one point moral victory it's going to be really tough to get another moral victory in that one but the good news is our Cat-griz ticket will get us in for free so that ought to sooth the disappointment somewhat.
The good news is these pre-season games don't count for anything except to help run the Big Sky Conference's collective RPI into the ground so maybe our champion can get one of those coveted slots in the NCAA tournament play-in game in Dayton. You're welcome Big Sky Conference!

Here's how it went down:
MSU Press Release
Montana State's furious second-half comeback fell just short, and Cal State Northridge escaped with a 74-73 win in Mount Pleasant, Mich., on Thursday.
Trailing 70-58 with just over six minutes to play, Flavien Davis hit a pair of free throws that ignited a Bobcat comeback. Calen Coleman hit one of two from the line, then drilled a three-pointer to cut the Matador lead to seven. Marcus Colbert then nailed a short jumper and converted the and-one opportunity, and a pair of Davis free throws chopped the margin to 71-69.
After Josh Greene hit a free throw for CSN, MSU went back to work. Colbert's layup drew the Cats to within a point, then Antonio Biglow gave MSU its first lead of the second half, 73-72, with 1:02 to play. When Stephen Maxwell hit a free throw 19 seconds later, the game was tied. Davis missed a jumper with 21 seconds left, and Paul Egwuonwu committed a foul sending Tre Hale-Emerson to the line.
The CSN center sank one of two free throws, to give the Matadors a 74-73 lead. Antonio Biglow and Davis each missed jumpers in the closing seconds, and Northridge held on for the win.
Coleman finished with a career-high 18 points, while Marcus Colbert had 17 off the bench and Davis scored 14. Egwuonwu grabbed 11 rebounds, and Biglow dealt five assists. Stephen Maxwell led all scorers with 21 for CSN, while Stephan Hicks added 16.
The Bobcats, who fell to 0-3 on the season, play host Central Michigan at 5 pm MT on Friday.

Bobcat Basketball is like trying to pick up chicks at a nursing home.
Before you get there, you know it's going to be bad. Once you get there, you recognize what a horrible idea it was, but somehow you get suckered in. Then you grow to like the company and just when you think you like the idea, she dies. Then you wonder why you ever got involved.
Turribel!
Just sayin'

No, Sprinks coaches at Fullerton not Northridge.

Yeah, they already lost to his team.
How many Cal State teams are there? Has anybody ever lost to all of them in a single year? I think the Cats should try to do it one of these seasons.

In D-I, there are CS-Northridge, CS-Bakersfield, CS-Sacramento, CS-Fullerton, CS-Long Beach. MSU will likely get three of the five completed this year assuming they don't sweep Sac State - 5 out of 5 could be a good goal for the future. After that, you have the 6 UC (don't you dare hyphenate us) schools, UC Davis, UCLA, UC Berkeley, UC Riverside, UC Irvine, and UC Santa Barbara. Sadly, the fantastically named UC Santa Cruz Banana Slugs play in Division II.

Fresno State and San Diego State are also considered part of the Cal State schools. I didn't realize Cal Poly also falls under the scope of the Cal State system.
