Recruiting

Post by bobcats35 » Fri Feb 15, 2013 2:41 pm

When recruiting players two cardinal rules must apply.
#1 The player must be able to stay eligible in the classroom.
#2 The player must be able to shoot the basketball effectively.

All other aspects of the game, defense, offense, passing, setting screeens, et al, can be taught. That is if the coaching staff is good.
The MSU coaching staffs', both men and women don't seem to be able to accomplish #2. Neither of our teams have quality shooters for the most part.
And, with a few exceptions, this has been the case over the years with the current coaches tenures.

Without change in coaching personnel and/or philosphy, we're never going to have quality teams and be competetive.

Our current teams are not even fun to watch. And it's beginning to show up in attendance. At the 10 minute mark last night many of the fans were leaving the women's game. At the 5 minute mark I was one of them.

And ironically, under previous regimes that's one thing MSU teams always did well, even if overall the teams were just average. Both Starner and Durham usually had plenty of guys who could fill it up, even if those teams generally weren't as athletic or as physical as most of our opponents. Many of those good shooters were Montana kids too, who in today's world would probably have been deemed to be insufficiently athletic to play for MSU. It make one wonder, doesn't it??

With a nod to mslacat

Holm, a 6 ‘ 3” inch senior guard leads the team in scoring, averaging 17.1 points-per-game. He has committed to play college basketball at Montana State next season.

“Stephan gets a lot of attention from our opponents. He is a pure shooter, excellent from three-point range, and he can drive to the hoop,” Galley said.

Get the dice out and roll them in the direction of Malta. Get Denham to MSU, redshirt him and give him a chance.
