Big Sky Conference Wants to Know:

Post by rtb » Thu Jan 24, 2013 12:53 pm

The BSC wants to know if they go with two divisions for hoops, what should the names be? Click the link and answer their poll.

Also, if you have other suggestions, post them here and I will let the guys at the BSC know.

Inland Northwest Div.
EWU, UofI, ISU, UM, MSU, ND, WSU

Southern Pacific Div.
PSU, UNC, NAU, SUU, CP,UCD, SSU

Edit - it just dawned on me that this would be the football split, but due to UCD and CP not playing BB in the BSC, probably would send WSU packing to the Southern Pacific.

CP and UCD are football only members.

Working roughly off time zones, regional rivalries, and historic conference rivalries as affiliation criteria, I see it as this:

Mountain Division:
UM, MSU, UND, UNC, WSU, ISU
This division is pretty cut and dried, with the only outlier of the above criteria being that UND isn't in the Mountain Time Zone.

Pacific Divison:
EWU, PSU, NAU, SUU, SSU, UofI
This division is a little clunkier, and UofI kinda gets the shaft as they have SSU as a travel partner (and vice-versa). But Moscow is a geographical nightmare anyways.

Eric Curry STILL makes me sad.

the only thing is, is that if you break it up geographically, some natural rivalries disappear with teams that are on the border of the split like WSU and NAU,.... ISU, WSU...that's why it should be north and south geographically

This makes a lot of geographic sense for basketball & volleyball. I would think that whatever the divisional alignment, EWU and Idaho will be travel partners since it is a sub-100 mile drive from Spokane/Cheney to Moscow.
