BOZEMAN, Mont. – Montana State added skill and versatility to its frontcourt on Thursday, signing Flavien Davis from San Jacinto (Texas) Junior College to a National Letter-of-Intent.

A 6-5, 225 lb  forward, Davis brings an inside-outside skill set to Montana State. He averaged 15.2 points and 7.6 rebounds at San Jacinto last season, chipping in with 45 assists and 35 steals. He shot 47.3% from the floor and 63% from the free throw line, earning Second Team All-Region XIV and all-conference honors as a freshman and First Team honors in the conference and region this season. Davis drew 38 charges in 2011-12, one more than in 2010-11.

“Flavien brings a strong blend of toughness and skill,” Huse said. “We struggled to shoot the ball with decent percentages this season and having Flavien’s skills and ability to create scoring opportunities for himself and others will help bring some balance to our team on the offensive end. He is very good in the midrange area and has a lot of basketball skill  and understanding on how to score and distribute the basketball. Defensively, I like the toughness Flavien brings and he was a very good rebounder in one of the best junior college conferences in the country. The bottom line with Flavien is he is a winner and will do whatever he needs to do to win basketball games as exhibited by the fact he took over 35 charges each of his two years at San Jac.”

Davis’ junior college coach Jac Jacobs agrees with Huse’s assessment. “Simply put,  Flavien is a winner. He won a state title in high school and over the last two years at SJC he was a big part of our 52-11 record,” Jacobs said. “He was a two-time all-region performer in what some believe is from top to bottom one of the most competitive JC leagues in the country. Obviously his point and rebound totals are impressive. What is most impressive is he holds the career record for charges taken. He is willing to give himself up for the good of the team, and that is contagious. I look for Flavien to continue to be successful and be a key part of the program at Montana State University.”

A product of Wisconsin Lutheran High School in his hometown of Milwaukee, Davis led his school to a state championship as a junior in 2009 and a 21-3 record the next year. He earned all-conference, all-area and all-state honors as a junior and senior, and was his league’s Player of the Year as a junior and  senior. Davis averaged 22.3 points and 8.4 rebounds his senior year and finished as Wisconsin Lutheran’s all-time leading scorer with 1,820 career points and 720 career boards.

“An emphasis in this recruiting class has been to improve on the overall basketball skill and IQ of our team,” Huse said. “There is no doubt that we were athletic this past year but we struggled to score efficiently and we often shot percentages in the mid 30% which made it difficult to win, especially as the season winded down. We become a lot more diverse and skilled offensively and we improve on our overall toughness with the addition of Flavien. We will play unselfish and tough basketball next season and we will have a team that  will make the right play at the right time. It is really exciting that we have added intelligent players who are proven winners like Flavien, Marcus, Ryan and Danny to our roster.”

Davis joins Billings West’s Danny Robison, who signed with the Bobcats Wednesday, and Seattle-area prep product Ryan Shannon as forwards who Huse lauds for their toughness and broad-based skill set. Idaho point guard Marcus Colbert also joins the Bobcats next fall.

Yes, there are a lot of very caring, albeit, frustrated fans here. You're joining what I think is a very talented team that could do big things if they can put it all together.

Like I posted in the other thread, he was rated a 2- or 3-start recruit depending on what site you looked at. Hopefully he blossoms here.

Looks like he has the athleticism and versatility to step in and play a few different roles. Hopefully he can really find his niche!
