Marcus Colbert leads Post Falls into 5A state playoffs

Post by Gidal Kaiser » Tue Feb 28, 2012 11:16 pm

http://www.spokesman.com/stories/2012/f ... o-another/
Post Falls (19-3), ranked No. 1 through the first month of the season and second in the final poll, heads to state as one of two favorites. On the other side of the bracket, Borah of Boise (22-1), which is on a 20-game winning streak, is the other favorite.
The Trojans are 80-19 during Colbert’s career. His first game at state Thursday will be his 100th. Colbert has 1,398 career points, second all-time. He’s within reach of the school record, but McLean didn’t want to know how close Colbert is to the mark published.
Colbert’s resume is nothing short of impressive. He averaged 8.4 points as a freshman and that nearly doubled to 16.4 by his junior season. He has been an Inland Empire League season champion or co-champion three consecutive years and qualified for state all four years. He has been an All-IEL first-team pick once and will likely be the league’s most valuable player this season. He’s also been first team All-State once.

Can you put this into context for Bobcat basketball?

This kid is the real deal. I like the way they talk about his toughness. After working through some APR and off-court issues when he first arrived, Huse has done a good job recruiting lately, but has simply had some bad luck. Tre Johnson, Salley (he didn't show up, but is a very good player), Reid, Dison, and now Colbert. Budnich has his moments. Robison and Shannon are also solid players. Huse had a great JC year last year with Bigelow, Blount, and Moon. Imagine if Salley, Blount and Bigelow were all out there this year.

Count me as someone who isn't giving up on Huse. He might need to soften his approach, but he's getting players and it'd be interesting to see what he does when he gets them all on the court.

I don't have to use the search function, when I have you guys to help. What also would have been good would be if Gidal would have put something like "Bobcat commit" in the title. The kid looks like a great get. He will really help us win in the first half of the season.

A brother from Idaho? You know he's got to be mentally tough.

Plus he's apparently one heck of a basketball player.

Yeah, because there are so few. Like Jordan Craney and Shawn Reid. I think that makes up about 100% of the players we've had from Idaho in the past 10 years.

I mainly meant because there are a bunch of white supremacists in Idaho, but that works too.

And Mormons. He better watch out they might try to baptise him or do they just do that to Jewish people.

Huse has had some really bad recruiting luck. His top three recruits for this season (Biglow, Stewart, and Blount) aren't currently playing. Salley-as I understand it-was in Bozeman and ready to start school when they found out he was a non-qualifier. He was one of Huse's biggest "gets" for last season. Every team has issues-almost no school has 100% success rate with recruits, but Huse has had more than his fair share of bad luck.

Hopefully this kid pans out-like Shawn Reid is. He looks like his build is similar to Singleton's. He's not real tall-which probably why we got him instead of Gonzaga, Wazzu, Idaho, Boise State, etc. It will be interesting to see where he plugs in-our team will be pretty guard heavy if Biglow and Stewart come back.

My bad. I was told he probably won't redshirt, and looks like it'll be a hotly contested battle for backup time behind Biglow next year (assuming he's academically eligible). I've had conversations with people who say Biglow is the team's best player right now and will be starting PG next season. I'll get more into this in the next week or so as the season finally closes.

I don't know if you are serious or joking but let me assure you there are not a bunch of white supremacists in Idaho. There are a just few knot-heads who get a lot of press. But you don't have to take my word for it ask Shawn Reid or Marcus Colbert the next time you see them. They are a couple of great kids and I am glad they are Bobcats.

I'm not dissing Reid and Colbert. They're obviously not white supremacists. My theory was that they're mentally tough. Plus, they're good basketball players.

Colbert was 'da man' yesterday for Post Falls.
NAMPA, Idaho – High school basketball doesn’t get much more exciting than Thursday’s opening round of the Idaho State 5A tournament at the Idaho Center. When the dust settled, one North Idaho team was moving on to the semifinals, while another saw its championship dreams come to an early end.

Post Falls won in heart-stopping fashion as star guard Marcus Colbert poured in 25 points – including an acrobatic, winning layup with 3 seconds remaining – in a 56-55 victory over Centennial. The Trojans (20-3) advance to play Mountain View in a state semifinal today.

Nice simul-post LTCF. Love this quote from Colbert's coach:
"It might be silly but, we're down one with 10 seconds to go, chaos going, Marcus has got the ball, I felt pretty good about it," Post Falls coach Mike McLean said with a smile.

Post Falls won and plays Borah for the title. Borah is ranked No. 1 and Post Falls No. 2. Colbert had 16 last night, including 8 in the final two minutes after the lead was cut to six. Borah sophomore sensation Isaiah Wright and Colbert will go head-to-head tonight. Wright had 15 in the opener and 27 last night.
