Women are getting killed on the boards - griz shooting the lights out

18-7 griz

26-16 griz
8:00 1st

Lots of sloppy shots; missing lay ups; cats shooting something like 30% for the half. Just hit back to back shots to pull within 10.

Down by 20 at half...47-27. Outsized and outplayed ...not outhustled, but cannot compete with UM's talent.

The boards were pretty even at half

MSU 23
Um 20

The difference is that UM is shooting 55% while MSU is shooting 30%.

Turnovers at half were MSU 9 UM 4

Tough loss, the Ladies just couldn't get it together today. They'll do alright though.

Women showed a lot of hustle, but put up a ton of really ugly shots - forced by pretty good griz defense. Lady griz had the real hot hand this afternoon - evidence the 95 points. We put up 75 and still lost. Not a bad game, but ran into a team playing good defense and hitting everything they threw up. Good effort - no quit in the team.

The Cats played tough today. Coming out shooting cold definitely set the tempo for the game.

The Cats have troubles matching up with Ena, Morales and especially Rogers. Rogers has such a quick release and is a great shooter. The Griz were more physical down low.

Erica Perry is really stepping her game up this year. Busey looks like she could develop into quite a player. Her defense has improved since the beginning of the year. Rachel Pauli looks like she is going to be a good player in the years to come.

It is tough to start out conference play against such a strong Griz team but the Cats have a lot to build on from this game

We shot horrid in the first half; there were some complete bricks. Credit the Griz D, but mostly credit ourselves for shooting so terrible. I fully expect us to be in the running in the tournament, however. We have a talented team, just need to improve shot selection and rebounding.

Pretty much explains in a nutshell the 20 point hole the Cats dug and couldn't get out of.

That's clever too. Man, you're a riot. I wish I was as well liked and respected around here as you are.

The women just have to defend better and rebound better. They're going to put up points, no doubt about it. However, I've noticed while watching many women's games over the past few years that their shot selection could be better. Many times, the team runs and guns and puts up the first shot they can, not searching for a better shot. Setting a play would also give a better chance for an offensive rebound. And if they take six seconds to shoot, while a team like the Griz take 15-20, they'll be on defense a lot more than they need to be. Of course, when Mandy Morales gets going, she's awfully hard to stop. And Sonya Rogers had a spectacular game. I am proud of how the ladies fought back and played a decent second half. They tried to get back into the game. Effort and character are really strong points of this team. They'll have a good year, I'm confident of that.
