Lost by 25. The game probably wasn't even that close.

Well...the good news is a week from now nobody will remember this one.
We looked really slow and unathletic against Memphis' athletes. Over 16,000 in attendance-that was probably a little intimidating too.

Re: MBB: at Memphis tonight!
You guys should be proud of your players & coaches. The all handled themselves with real class after what was apparently trying circumstances getting to Memphis. I had a little trouble registering on your site & your admin helped me out. Here are some of my thoughts I shared with him on last nights game:
I really thought after the MSU kids caught up to the speed of the game they accounted well. Navarre is fun to watch & handles well. He even took the Kid N Play ribbing from our band well. Bynum is solid. Rush could play for us.
Your coach was terrific. He remained calm & was quite honestly hilarious. He kept his cool even when some calls went against him. I think you will do well in the Big Sky if you hit the outside J & your bench gives you some quality minutes.
Good luck to you guys down the road & hope you make the big dance!

Re: MBB: at Memphis tonight!
Thanks for the words! I always appreciate a perspective from the other side. Especially when it's from a bigger school. I'm really impressed with the play of our guys as a team this year. It's more about them as a whole rather than someone trying to make a play on their own. I'm surprised Coach Huse was as "calm" as you claimUofMTigerFan wrote:You guys should be proud of your players & coaches. So are you a student at Memphis and a Griz fan or does the UofM stand for the University of Memphis? Around here, the UofM stands for our in-state rival the University of Montana Grizzlies.

Re: MBB: at Memphis tonight!
I am a University of Memphis alum & fan. We call ourselves the UofM. Our school changed from Memphis State University to UofM in 1993. It took our fans a long time to embrace it. Memphis has a great tradition in hoops. The same cannot be said for football. We do not get as much attention as the University Of Tennessee so our fans generally pull for non BCS schools when we are not playing them. I have found over the years that the fans at schools like MSU & George Mason are just a better class of citizens.
I really hope you guys continue to do well in conference. You guys winning helps our RPI & maybe we could see a rematch in the big dance should we make it! We have gotten accustomed to deep runs in the NCAA tournament but with our X coach leaving for Kentucky & stealing everything and the kitchen sink we are just hoping to make the tournament. Our new coach, Josh Pastner, is terrific & has already signed the #1 recruiting class for 2010 according to multiple sites. I hope we continue to play teams lke MSU that gives us some exposure to fans in other parts of the country. I think you guys would really like our style of play. It differs greatly from your style. We play gritty defense & get up the floor in a hurry. We do not shoot the 3 well or often but create a bunch of turnovers that lead to some SC highlights.

Re: MBB: at Memphis tonight!
Thanks for the perspective. It's not always fun enduring a beat-down like that, but it's good for our team to play against those kind of athletes and that kind of venue. I like your young coach-he looks like a keeper. We barely lost to Southern Miss here in Bozeman while missing our two starting guards (So Miss is in your league-correct?). I think the Tigers will cut through CUSA like a buzz saw. Enjoy the ride.UofMTigerFan wrote:I am a University of Memphis alum & fan. We call ourselves the UofM. Thanks for the kind words TigerFan! I think all of us here knew it would be a tremendous mountain to climb to even stay on the floor with a great program like Memphis. It's nice to hear that someone who is a college hoops fans and knows alot about big-time college b-ball thinks that our team handled themselves well. Good luck this season -- count me in as one of those converted Memphis Tiger fans

On that note, what the hell happened to TU football this season, Spider? Eric Curry STILL makes me sad.

Re: MBB: at Memphis tonight!
I blame the football slump on the loss of Gus Malzahn to Auburn. His offense was absolutely unstoppable (top offense in the nation two years in a row, '07grizzh8r wrote:On that note, what the hell happened to TU football this season, Spider? '08). This year Tulsa had NO offense...it was almost as bad as watching the MSU offense; bad, bad, BAD. If the team doesn't improve next year, Todd Graham will be on the hot seat. When you're making $1.1 million per year to coach football, you better be producing.
