MBB @ Portland State
Game day, tip off 3pm mountain time. We will be in first place if we can pull off a victory on the road against the team with only one conference loss.
What's the scout report on these vikings? Usually they seem to be quite athletic and long, and thrive off of fast paced action.

Pretty much the same scouting report this year as in previous ones. They're only 6th in the Big Sky in scoring offense but are 1st in scoring defense and also lead the league in blocks and steals per game. They've attempted and made the fewest 3-pointers in the conference by quite a wide margin, so they definitely try to beat you in the paint.msu_agfan wrote: ↑Sat Jan 31, 2026 8:55 amGame day, tip off 3pm mountain time. Re: MBB @ Portland State
I found this write up;
Portland State enters Saturday's contest at the top of the Big Sky Conference with a 13-6 overall record, including 7-1 in league play. The Vikings are coming off a narrow loss to Montana, 64-60, for their first conference loss of the season. Portland State is strong on both ends of the floor, leading the conference in scoring margin (8.5), scoring defense (70.4), steals per game (7.7), blocks per game (4.3), and turnovers forced per game (13.3), to name a few categories. Terri Miller Jr. is the Big Sky leader in points per game (19.4), and Jaylin Henderson ranks fifth with 17.4 points per game. Tre-Vaughn Minott pulls down 8.9 rebounds per game to lead the conference in that category.

I feel like this is a game where we will miss Waka Mbatch and his presence inside. We will see!

Cats made it tough on the themselves getting a road split, losing to sac. But a win today would make it right. This is a good test to see what this team is about. Can they dig in and get a tough win or……

I'm thinking with as banged up as the Cats are, and playing in Portland against a very stout PSU team - a Bobcat win would be an epic upset.
Great time to be a BOBCAT!

McMahon is just in multi game slump. He’s gotta get going or it will be hard for the Cats to keep pace.

This is a really bad matchup for us. We might not outscore PSU"s women's team (43) in this one-especially if we stay cold from three point range.

Missing Davian Brown. Sucks he was a point getter and a disrupter on defense.

Jed plays hard, the rest don’t look all that interested. I get the injury situation and Brown is a tough loss but they can still play with some intensity. I’m not seeing it.

It’s that edge we had with Sprinkle that’s elusive. If you’re not going to be a prolific scoring team you gotta be tough and scrappy. Women have it…men, sometimes.Cats and Dogs wrote: ↑Sat Jan 31, 2026 5:49 pmJed plays hard, the rest don’t look all that interested. Lot of long rebounds given up with not much hustle to go after them. Depth will be an issue down the stretch.

Sucks to lose two in a row on the road but 7-3 through 10 games is pretty damn good given the adversity and injuries this team has faced. Not sure about the rest of you but I'm still on board with this team. Go Cats!!!

Re: MBB @ Portland State
The Griz lost to Sac State tonight, so MSU is back into a tie for 2nd place and currently holds the tiebreaker. Weber is in 4th place at 5-4. Two big home games next week against beatable opponents in Idaho (revenge game) and EWU, then the Bobcats play in Missoula the following weekend. Still a lot to play for and a Top 3 tournament seed seems very realistic after they were #5 in Logie's first two seasons.

Re: MBB @ Portland State
The team Logie cobbled together this past off season definitely had the talent to complete for a league title. The numerous blown leads and close losses in non-conference were frustrating, but most of those teams were better than what we're seeing in the Big Sky. Unfortunately, the loss of three major contributors, including Davian Brown, who I think was becoming our best player, is a devastating blow. I don't think you can pull 3 main guys from any Big Sky team's lineup and expect them to do well. If Logie can pull off a top half finish I'll certainly tip my cap. I admit I haven't been a huge Logie fan, but he can't be held responsible for the terrible luck this team has had this season.

Re: MBB @ Portland State
Totally agree. Given the injury situation I posted it would have been a huge upset if the Cats would have beaten PSU. I'll also say even though we beat UM the first go around, I don't think it's happening in Missoula. If the Cats could win there and somehow win the Big Sky tourney it would be a HUGE overachievement. My expectations are set pretty low right now.BelgradeBobcat wrote: ↑Sun Feb 01, 2026 12:14 amThe team Logie cobbled together this past off season definitely had the talent to complete for a league title.
