NET Rankings
One thing I enjoy following throughout the season are the NCAA's NET Rankings, which are the official computer rankings used by the NCAA Tournament Selection Committees as part of their team selection and seeding process. Here are the current ratings for all the Big Sky men's and women's teams:
Men
134 - PSU
140 - MSU
154 - UNC (despite 1-5 conference record)
160 - Idaho
162 - ISU
175 - Weber
197 - UM
255 - EWU
272 - Sac
307 - NAU
Looks like a relatively strong year for the Big Sky with 7 of the 10 teams ranked in the Top 200. EWU, Sac, and NAU would appear to be the clear bottom three at this point.
Women
66 - MSU
121 - Idaho
129 - ISU
154 - UNC
220 - EWU
223 - Sac
236 - NAU
261 - Weber
274 - UM
306 - PSU
On the flipside, women's basketball seems to be down this year with only four Top 200 teams. There's a pretty clear split at the top with MSU, Idaho, ISU, and UNC - any game against those opponents will be huge and fortunately MSU is 2-0 so far against them. Their next two games are vs UNC and @ISU, both of those will be big tests. Hopefully everyone in Bozeman didn't expend all their vim on Saturday and can get to the Brick tomorrow night!

Re: NET Rankings
I just don't see Nothern Colorado as not the #2 team right now. Unless it was only a close game because of playing in Greeley. But definitely this game tonight with only one day off gives me a little pause. Hopefully we play lights out and don't have Cat/griz slash Natty celebration hangover.

Re: NET Rankings
Agreed. UNC looks to be the most improved team in conference this year. In Greeley we won the first quarter and UNC won the last 3 but our +30 point Q1 carried the day. I mentioned in other thread that Coach Mateo was a former assistant at MSU and moved on to DII head coaching roles. She built good teams at prior coaching assignments and so far appears to have her best team since taking over at UNC.lutecat wrote: ↑Mon Jan 19, 2026 7:04 amI just don't see Nothern Colorado as not the #2 team right now. Tougher game tonight that felt closer than an almost 20 pt win. I still maintain UNCU is the 2nd best team in the Big Sky.BobcatDel wrote: ↑Mon Jan 19, 2026 11:52 amAgreed. Re: NET Rankings
I agree it was a weird game. Even though we had a big lead late in the 3rd and early 4th quarters, it felt like we were getting out hustled...luckily they weren't making their shots either.lutecat wrote: ↑Mon Jan 19, 2026 10:28 pmTougher game tonight that felt closer than an almost 20 pt win. Re: NET Rankings
After last night's game the men's team now has a Net Ranking of #135 and is the highest ranked Big Sky team, one spot ahead of Portland State at #136.

- UNC had 25 Turnovers / MSU had 15.. BUT MSU had 15 Steals to UNC's 4... I know that the refs were calling it really close in the 2nd and 3rd quarters. This seemed to frustrate Binford, and the team at times (one call on one side, but not the other...). Cats won big despite fighting through coming off an emotional Rivalry win (sure the UM game was a blow-out, but still hard to turn around in 2 days and play again after rivalry game).
Here is the bright stop (well, one of them... There were many)-- MSU players after the game seemed upset at themselves for the way THEY played (in a 14 point win). This is a great sign, and should put fear in other teams. This team is NOT happy with just winning, they want to play well in all phases on every play, and none of them take it lightly. Don't think many understand how rare that is, especially for a team as young at they are.

Re: NET Rankings
On Massey the men jumped 17 spots to 153, Portland is not a state jumped 11 to 154, No Colo dropped 29 to 180, Idaho jumped 7 to 183 and the grisLLies jumped 5 to 189.
Didn’t we lose to Denver, they are 244.
