We are all familiar with the great divide trophy for the football rivalry but why is there not a traveling trophy for basketball?

I think it would be fun to add a traveling trophy in a manner similar to the ole goat that use to go between Havre and Great Falls High. In order for it to switch hands a team has to win two games in a row (ie last game of one year first of the next, or sweep the series for the year)

Here’s my thought on the trophy………. Ore y Plata

Each school gets a plow to have at their school with place holders for a shovel and pick. Men play for one, women the other. The pick and shovel could be at different schools but when one has both at the same time the trophy looks complete

Adds a fun extra bonus to the basketball programs and brings the men’s and women’s teams together to try to get and hold a combined trophy

First half was “kinda close” but the second half was an absolute work of art for the Lady CATS. What was the first half, 13 point lead and then ends with a 38 point win.

I’m not following your comment there PapaG. The current coach Nate Harris is not the one who hit staff members. The guy who hit staff members was fired late in season and Harris was elevated to head coach then….not too long before tournament. The gris girls actually played better for Harris getting all the way to championship game.

You are right he has a tough start to this season though.

I agree lutecat, Harris is a good Coach and a better person…and I hope they give him time to turn it around. I’m not sure if the turmoil last year affected his recruiting efforts but probably didn’t help. Give the guy a couple years.

It’s hard for me to support anything gris but Harris is a class act, he was when he was a Bobcat assistant and he still is. I want him to be successful…..BUT always take SECOND place to the Cats! Ha!

Thank you for clarifying. Guess we will see in a few years if he is mediocre. In his years as an assistant at MSU he was well liked and respected as a good coach and recruiter as well as liked by the players who worked with him. He was noted to be good at game planning strategy and members of our current staff respect his coaching ability. I’ll give him a couple years before I say he is mediocre.

I still think Nate Harris is a good coach and will have success at UM if given a couple years to build his program. Expectations were unfairly high for this season based on a three game run in Boise last year in which the team got hot and overperformed their talent level. Nice to see them get a win today over NAU.
