Coach Binford confirmed Heidi Smith is out for the season. Disappointing news, and, therefore, all the more important that the bench continues to step up like they did today. Partly due to injuries, the bench lacks a bit of depth and is very young, but will only get better with experience and confidence. The Idaho game will have helped in that regard.
Definitely disappointing but hopefully Dylan and Brooke can return soon which will both be huge additions. MSU has really good depth as it is, Teagan Erickson is a great player who would be a starter for most teams and the true freshmen are getting better and better every game as the season goes on. They still play a little hesitantly at times but you can see the confidence building game by game as they get more game experience. Yesterday it was really hard to detect a drop-off when Coach Binford took out the starters and brought in the second team.
This group plays great "team ball" none of them care who scores, who gets a steal ect. They just want to win. The radio guy for Idaho told me after the game "I don’t know of another team that comes at you with every player on the bench like this team does". That was evident when they putting every player on the bench, and the lead grew.

All 10 players for the Bobcats played between 14 and 26 minutes yesterday, which is incredibly unusual. It's easier to do that of course when you're playing with a 20+ point lead for most of the game, but at the same time it was also working and as you said, they were actually extending the lead with the backups in the game.

Oh, I hate this news. Heidi was really looking good starting out the season. Played a big role in our comeback at Troy. She fit right into the speed and quickness the gameplan requires.

We lost the game at Troy. It was the Colorado game where Heidi really started to show.

On the bright side for Heidi, she played in few enough games before getting hurt to qualify for a medical redshirt if she chooses to do so. Still a bummer but other players like Pat McMahon on the men's team have been able to use this option and still have great careers after overcoming injury issues.
