Basketball vs NAU 1/3

Post by MSU01 » Sat Jan 03, 2026 1:37 pm

For those of us not fortunate to be spending the weekend partying in Nashville, at least we can spend the day watching some Bobcat basketball! The women play at NAU at 2:00 with the men at home starting at 6. The NAU women beat the surprisingly struggling Lady Griz on Thursday night while the NAU men lost by 14 to the Griz in Missoula. I like the Bobcats' chances to get another sweep today, Go Cats!

Cats cruising so far up 47-28 at the half, NAU has no answer for Taylee Chirrick. Hoping they can close it out a bit better than they did Thursday!

Yes, what is up with the lady gris? Really seem to struggling big time. Not that I am upset with that, just very surprised.

Cats win 82-65. Chirrick puts in 27. Never trailed in the game.

75% team free throw shooting (!) and forcing 25 NAU turnovers, 32 points off them = another good Cats road win. Go Cats Go!

Fortunately they never got any closer than 9 so it was a bit more enjoyable to watch down the stretch than Thursday! Great win, going to NAU on the back half of a road trip is always tough. EWU and Idaho at home next week, in non-conference play the Vandals looked like the team most likely to be able to challenge MSU this year.

I, too, have been surprised to see the lack of success of the gris this year, esp. with Konig and Waddington back. I knew losing McCrackin would hurt them, but not this much. So, I did a little comparison between the Cats and the gris team statistics and they aren't close.

In the 13 games this season, the Bobcats have scored a total of 979 pts to the gris 835. Through 12 games there are 193 steals for the Cats and 84 for the gris, assists - 182 vs 133, total rebounds - 426 to 382, free throws attempted 189 to 158. The only category the gris lead in is fewer turnovers where they have 152 and we have 207 due to our 4th gear shifting to overdrive style of play and being so young. It's a beautiful year to be a BOBCAT!!

Girls! When you’re ice cold with dead legs and nursing a lead you don’t need to be jacking threes with 20 seconds on the shot clock!!!

That being said…sweeping one of the toughest road trips in the league is awesome! We’re also down a few players so we had that to overcome. Grace Heinz and Courtney Smith are really helping out.

Cats just forced a timeout with an 8 - 0 run. Jacks are trying to run us off the 3 point line and we're getting nice looks at the basket as a result. Missed a few bunnies at the rim but they're settling in.

Great game Ladies. Lost a bit of the lead and then BOOM. 17 steals isn’t a bad night, likewise 17 assists and out-boarded them by two. Probably nice to have that tough trip over.

Like the men’s game, couldn’t get it on my phone so I listened online. We have some pretty fair announcers. We are fortunate.

Only 246 in the house.

Road wins are tough to come by. We let leads slip away but bottom line we are 2-0. Great start. Looking forward to waxing the frizzz at home in a couple weeks.

The griz i think have an issue with their ability to score from the bench. Last year they had no bench scoring really. They replaced MJ and Dani with bench players. So now you have starters that dont score and more bench not scoring. Nate became the coach to really portal much. So they arent so hot this year.

You nailed one of their reasons for being 3 - 10. The gris bench averages 7.8 pts/game. The Cats 31.
