Is this the start of a new trend?

Does it expand to football players coming back from NFL, CFL or other semipro leagues? Could good players at tail-end of careers come back to million dollar NIL deals with college programs? How far does this change college athletics down the road if some “sideboards” aren’t put in place? Just wondering…

At some point I feel like the only rule left will be that there aren't any rules. So could a kid who isn't quite good enough for the NBA go play in overseas pro leagues until he's 30 and then decide to come back to the US and play college basketball?

Another article on professional players coming back to the college ranks. How far does it go? As MSU01 noted…it’s just gonna be the Wild West.

I chuckled thinking….you know Labron James never played college ball so he technically has 4 years eligibility remaining. As his professional career enters twilight years...who says some rich university doesn’t offer up $5 M a year to prolong his playing days or just for media attention. Or you can see some kid getting $1 MM at the college level suing to retain his eligibility for 8 or 9 or 10 years because his payday will be better than entry level “professional” leagues.
When Bill Self the HC at Kansas and arguably one of the best in college ranks says “I have no idea what we’re doing”…well that kinda says it all.

It does, but the outrageous contracts these top coaches demand, along with guarantees and huge buyouts, started it down this path.BobcatDel wrote: ↑Fri Dec 26, 2025 10:30 amAnother article on professional players coming back to the college ranks.
