Did anyone go to the scrimmage? Was it open to fans? Surprised not to see any talk on here about it. Also...

"The Bobcats played Thursday's scrimmage without injured inside players Flavien Davis and Paul Egwuonwu." Are those serious injuries? Anyone know?

I went. It was open to the public. Less than 100 people were there.

Just found my notebook from that evening. I'll dump my observations here in the morning.

How can you possibly come to an educated conclusion about last years team by only attending one game? I buy season tickets every year and while I certainly wish that they would win more games and do better in the tournament, I have a great time supporting the team because they are BOBCATS. They work their tails off and no one works harder at coaching than Brad Huse! There are lots of reasons for supporting this years team; They have a ton of experience coming back from last years 4th place team. Yes, 4th out of 11 teams! That is better than most teams in the Big Sky. So come on show some Bobcat Pride and give this team a chance. Being a Bobcat doesn't mean only supporting the football team!!

Yea let's give him a chance, how can you tell how a coach will do till he has at least 5 years in (oops skip that one). Also when they finaly win a tournamebt game, everybody that's calling for his head will be clapping each other on the back (kind of like ISU's Big Sky win.)

No, but being a Bobcat does mean a few things to me. One, it means having high expectations of success in all things we pursue and two, being a long time Bobcat I have memories of what MSU Basketball can be and the current state of the program is barely a shell of what it should be. So yes, let's give Coach Huse another 5 years to see if he can get a BSC Tourney win.

BelgradeBobcat wrote:Huse did the football equivalent of replacing his offensive and defensive coordinators in shaking up his staff. That is a sign of dissatisfaction with the status quo. I wonder the makeup of his staff was a topic of conversation between Huse and Fields before the contract extension was offered. His new assistants are intriguing and I do believe they're bearing fruit on the recruiting trail.

As for the negativity: There's more negativity expressed during a football game day thread for a game the Bobcats are winning than we see on this board! The concern should not be negativity-it's apathy. If trends continue they can just move the games to Shroyer and save lighting and heating the Worthington.
You hit the nail on the head with that comment. There's more discussion about football on BN during basketball season, than there is about basketball. That tells you all you need to know about the current state of the program. Even the most passionate Bobcat fans (and most of the people on BN fall into that category) are going to start losing interest after year upon year of mediocre results. Even though I've always followed and cheered for the football team, I have to admit that during the Solomonson/Hysell era my level of enthusiasm was not as high as it's been during the Kramer/Ash era. That's only natural, and it doesn't mean that you're a bandwagon fan.

Living in GF, I don't make it to many games. Although I go to Bozeman for business occasionally, and I always used to go if they happened to have a home game when I was in town. I used to be an avid MSU hoops fan though, and followed them closely during "the good old days", and I never missed any of their games that were on TV. They had some great teams and were very fun to watch during the mid to late 80's, and again during the mid to late 90's. I also made the trip to Bozeman for their first round tourney game in 2010. My interest had sort of been re-ignited by their unexpected run to the tourney title game the previous season. I really thought that maybe we were on the verge of turning the corner at that time, but of course it hasn't exactly played out that way.

I was slightly encouraged by the fact that we didn't see the normal mass exodus of players since the end of last season. During the Huse era, I don't believe we've ever had as many returning starters and key reserves as we have this year. It seems like almost every season previously, Huse has had to rebuild his roster, because of all the defections. That's not the case this year, so there will be no excuses if we have another disappointing season. And my definition of a "non disappointing" season is pretty modest...finishing in the top 4 during the regular season, splitting with the Griz, and winning at least one tourney game.
