I guess you take the good with the bad. I thought that this interview was loaded with softballs. I wished you would have asked about the February swoons, what he is doing to try to retain players etc. some tough questions.

Typical interview with huse....not a lot of substance. It was pretty much the polar opposite of the binford interview.

PARDON THE CAPS- I USE IT TO DESIGNATE WHAT I AM ADDING VS THE INTERVIEW ITSELF.
HUSE GIVES LARGELY INCOHERENT, OFF-TOPIC ANSWERS TO NEARLY EVERY QUESTION HE IS ASKED. HE GIVES ONE OF THE WORST INTERVIEWS I HAVE EVER READ. MAYBE IT'S INTENTIONAL. IT'S NOT JUST THAT HE ANSWERS IN MOSTLY BANAL COACH-SPEAK, IT'S THAT HIS LANGUAGE IS NON-SPECIFIC, DISORGANIZED AND SOMEHOW ALWAYS LACED WITH THE IDEA THAT HE AND HIS PLAYERS JUST DID THEY BEST THEY COULD HAVE POSSIBLY DONE THIS YEAR.
HERE'S A SAMPLE:
BB: How would you characterize this last season overall?
Huse: “Resilience. We figured out a way to keep battling and it was enough to help us finish fourth. That was good for this group. I told the guys during our end of the season meeting, in my eight seasons here, we’ve finished third to sixth, right in the middle of the pack.
SUBTEXT: THESE WERE NOT VERY GOOD PLAYERS AND I SOMEHOW COACHED THEM SO WELL THAT WE FINISHED 4TH (I MIGHT HAVE FOLLOWED UP WITH A QUESTION ASKING IF HE WERE THE PERSON WHO RECRUITED THESE PLAYERS IN THE FIRST PLACE.)
“In past years, we would have hosted a playoff game, but with the new format, we didn’t. It doesn’t help your opportunity to win in the playoffs if you don’t host.
SUBTEXT: COMPLAINING. IF WE WOULD HAVE A HOSTED A PLAYOFF GAME WE MIGHT HAVE WON. (WHAT DOES THE LAST SENTENCE EVEN MEAN? " It doesn't help your opportunity to win in the playoffs if you don't host." )
“Now we are a neutral court setting. We want to host next year, but if we don’t, we want to get to that neutral court and take it further.
REALLY? YOU WANT TO TAKE IT FURTHER? WHAT A REVELATION!
“To look back on the season, it was resilience and perseverance from our players and coaches. We never stopped battling.”
RESILIENCE? REALLY? IT'S ONLY THE 3RD TIME HE MENTIONS IT IN THE INTERVIEW. AND NOW THAT HE BRINGS IT UP FOR THE 3RD TIME, WHENEVER I WATCHED MSU I DIDN'T THINK THAT TEAM PLAYED SO HARD. 'DISORGANIZED' AND 'SELFISH' WOULD BE MORE THE WORDS THAT SPRING TO MIND.
BB: How do you not let the frustrations manifest and send you out of control?
Huse: “I’ll tell you this, man: kids are a lot more resilient than adults. Our players, to their credit, I feel like they never used the adversity as excuses. They used it as an opportunity to grow and move forward.
“We had to direct some of that as coaches..."
WHAT? THIS IS NOT AN ANSWER TO THE QUESTION ASKED AND EXHIBITS NO CONSISTENT THOUGHT PATTERN.
" ...but our players, they wanted to represent MSU in the right way and themselves. Having the type of season where we get back to the playoffs, we honestly finished as high as we could.”
OH, ONCE AGAIN WE GET TO HEAR THAT YOU FINISHED AS HIGH AS YOU COULD. THANKS FOR RE-RE- RE-MENTIONING THAT.
IF THIS REPRESENTATIVE OF THE WAY HUSE COMMUNICATES WITH HIS TEAM... IT IS LITTLE WONDER THEY LOOK TOTALLY CONFUSED WHEN THEY ARE ON THE COURT.
...VERY DEPRESSING.
