Aerick Sanders Joins MBB Coaching Staff

Post by imacat » Fri Jul 27, 2012 11:42 am

BOZEMAN, Mont. – Aerick Sanders, a long-time professional player in Europe who played college basketball at San Diego State, joined the Montana State men’s basketball coaching staff on Thursday, Bobcat coach Brad Huse announced.

Huse welcomed the former SDSU All-Mountain West selection who served as Aztecs’ team captain as a senior. “I’m excited that someone with Aerick’s background is joining our coaching staff,” Huse said. “He was known as an over-achiever as a player, but he has great experience and comes highly recommended. Aerick is very personable and will relate well with our players. He has had a lot of success in his life, and he’ll be an excellent addition to our staff.”

An All-CIF and All-South Bay choice at Junipero Serra High School in Gardena, Calif., Sanders joined Steve Fisher’s San Diego State squad as one of the West Coast’s top 15 recruits. He averaged 16.1 points and 9.8 rebounds a game as a senior, the year he served as a captain and landed All-MWC kudos. Following his college career, which included appearances in the NCAA and NIT Tournaments, Sanders played professionally in Turkey, Israel, France and Latvia from 2004-10. He participated in NBA Summer Leagues twice and the pre-draft camp in 2004. For the past two years he has worked in skill development with players ranging from middle school to the NBA.

The addition of Sanders rounds out MSU’s coaching staff, after assistant coach Temesghen Starr accepted a fund-raising position on the MSU campus.

While I am sad to see T Starr leave, it will be nice for the players to have a big Man coach who is taller than 5-10 (Sanders playing height was listed at 6-9) Welcome aboard Aerick!!
