going to be griz

I was up in Great Falls at a wrestling tourney and all the talk was that these 3 Helena boys are all going to sign with the griz. Hustad is going to stay in state and neither him nor Bignell were given an offer from the Cats. Anybody else heard this?

I don't that is true as we were told Kramer offered 5 full scholarships to MT kids with Bignell and Dennehy being 2 of them. It is now up to them to decide where to go. If UM gets all of them they will not have any scholarships left after that to offer so it is hard to imagine that they are going to use them all up ASAP

The Griz offered Husted and Featherston, they want Bignell to walk on. Husted has offers from Idaho and Wyoming, he is hopeing that Erickson will offer at ASU. I think the Cats have not shown Husted that much attention. Dont ask me why he is a stud.

Most players are far from committing to anyone. Unless a player already had his mind made up before the year was over, he won't be going public. They've probably got it narrowed down to a few schools. Feb. 1 is signing day. They'll probably start saying after the year end. The players are working for the best deal they can get. If they only have a half, they'll wait for a full. If they have a full from a I-AA, they'll wait for a partial from a I-A. And so on.

Kramer said he isn't going to offer any freshmen o-linemen. Helena High is a difficult place to recruit. Arnston is a former QB there. I can't remember the last time UM offered a Helena kid and didn't get him. Birkeland might've been asked to walk on. I can't think of any other Helena High kids that were even on the team at MSU during Arnston's time. Flatow.

And boy wasn't Flatow an awesome QB. Wasn't he gone as soon as Kramer came along or did he transfer?

The Helena dad told me that Fetherston wants to be a griz, Hustad is going to play defense for them and Bignell recieved a half a ride. But who knows things can change real fast.

It will be the time to worry about the choices 17/18 year old kids make when February comes around, not before

1-A only gives full scholarships, they can't do partials like 1-AA can.

Were you talking to Featherston's Dad at the tourney? Who were you watching wrestle (I have my ideas)?

Bignell and Featherston

News Bignell and Featherston

Bignell said the Griz offerred him half scholarship, but he still wants to be Cat...no offers from Bozeman yet.

It sounds like the Featherson was offered a full from the cats and would have came for much less than that. I haven't heard what the Griz offered him. Maybe he switched if they offered him as well.

A week ago, Hustad was interested in Pac 10 schools, and now possibly the griz? He is monster with potential to get even bigger, it seems like the cats should atleast make him offer (Unless of course they truly don't need another young Olinemen).

Helena High and Capital High are not difficult to recruit. If either coach from the Griz or the Cats comes and makes even an walk-on invitation the players listen. It is true that the Arston does a great job of promoting his players and many end up U of M, but there are former Capital players that could probably play for the Cat or Griz that don't even get an walk-on invite (Ie Tyler Emmert).

The biggest thing seems to be that the Cat/Griz coaches have different needs that they address at different times, this is why some kids get full rides from one and not even talked to by other.

My wife teaches Bignel, he has not been offered from MSU and doesnt sound like we are going to. UofM has offered 1/2. He has said that Kramer really hasnt even talked to him.

If true, this is very unfortunate. A (good) Montana kid there for the taking and MSU hasn't really talked to him? This irritates me more than a little.

Well, Fetherston has decided to be a griz! Hopefully they'll step up and offer Bignell if they haven't already.

MSU has talked to Bignell. Maybe Kramer hasn't been there, but MSU has.

Featherston

Cats offered Featherston a full and griz offered him a half...and he said one of the reasons he wanted to go to the griz, is b/c they wanted him to red shirt, but the Cats wanted him to play special teams right away.

Most kids want to get on the field right off the bat, but apparently he had different reasoning. It's tough to win when every kid wants somthing different.

Maybe Bignell will end up with the Cats...

Capital boys seem to be better gamers than Helena high boys anyway...McIntyre, Crebo, Carothers, Daly, Sampson, Emmert, the majority of players at Carroll College the last 6 years...I guess, Helena High does produce good kickers, Carpenter, and Petek was a beast.
(Of course, I am a little biased...ha ha)
