Looks like a done deal

Sources close to NewsChannel 7 say Montana State football coach Mike Kramer will be the next head coach at the University of Idaho.

Just reported that our coach is gone. Looks legit.

Whoops, looks like they may have jumped the gun. At first they said there would be a news conference this afternoon, then they deleted that part of the story, and now they added a new part to their "release" and say that they have contacted Idaho and they wouldn't confirm the hiring. So, I guess only the big human himself knows for sure. Why don't one of you guys in Bozeman just go over to the fieldhouse and find out - I've got work to do here.

But now I see this from the same news room:

We stand by our report...

Isn't really a big surprise, especially with what's going on the last couple of days

If true - then at least the wait is over....

If you think it's crazy now on the board - just wait until the speculation on a replacement really kicks in! ](*,)

If true, lets wait until we see who is on the "list". We can throw out a 100 names and not one of them could be on Fields list.

I'll wager there will be a surprise or two that will surface within the next few days.

I called Idaho's media relations person; if he's the choice, they're keeping their mouths shut in Moscow. Geeezzzz, I hope they give him a shot and I can go over and watch some of their games during the fall steelhead run.

I typically don't post things like this since I don't have alot of connections. But the I ones I do have are extremely reliable, and they have confirmed that Coach K has accepted the job at Idaho as of this morning and will announce it later today.

A couple of posters at Vandal Venue this morning say this report is false and there will be no press conference this afternoon. Seems like this hasn't been a very good week for regional sportswriters trying to keep up with which jobs are or are not open and who might be going where.

Traditionally, when a coach leaves, he takes a few of his prize recruits and staff members with him. Any idea who, as long as some of you have reliable connections, may be leaving with him? Don't we have Washington's top rated quarterback from two years ago sitting out a redshirt year?

He'd have to sit another year to move up

Not so quick

Per VandalVenue

I just got an email from Becky Paul, Idaho Sports Information Director, saying that they would give people ample time for any press conference WHEN there was news to report. There is no press conference scheduled for today.

Understand. He'd still have three years left.

Only if they have signed, or are current members of the team. If Kramer has been out recruiting this year and received a commit from one or more player so far they could follow Kramer to Idaho if they choose and Kramer still feel like offering the kid at the new school. I can not remember any Big Sky players in recent times following their coach to a new school. Remember, commitments mean nothing to the NCAA.

On the other hand since Kramer's contract runs through June of 2007, MSU has to grant HIM a release! While I don't think they would hold up him from getting a new job, BUT we could put a stipulation that Kramer can not recruit / sign any players that he recruited and or used MSU resources ($$$$$) to recruit. I have heard of colleges doing just that after their head coach or in one case recruiting coordinator leaves. Brad Huse comes to mind.

The TV channel report that prompted this thread makes it pretty clear that they are reporting a rumor:

"Sources close to NewsChannel 7 say Montana State football coach Mike Kramer will be the next head coach at the University of Idaho.

NewsChannel 7 talked with officials inside the University of Idaho, but they would not confirm that Kramer had been hired."

The rumor is only as good as whomever the "sources close to NewsChannel 7" are reliable. Who knows? Maybe they called Mike's daughter.

I thought he was still working on last year's contract (didn't sign this year's)

That ordinarily happens in an intraconference hire; I've also watched kids withdraw from school the same day their coach leaves and enroll the next day in his new place of business.

Huse's case would be one of those instances of scarce resources and--well, it's as bad as some folks I know graduated from MSU and having to live in the midst of...bigger schools ordinarily (said ordinarily) don't mess with the kids when a coach leaves. I have had kids get told they could only be released to certain schools too when they were left in limbo.

The SR Vandals blog says kramer will have an on-campus interview on Thursday and that other interviews are taking place.

Without giving details ( sorry boys) but I do have it on very good sources that Kramer is gone. What is happening now is more formality than indecision. This week it will be signed sealed and delivered.

So-- who do we think is "un officially" being contacted for Kramers spot?
