Basketball conference schedule

Who's the moron that set the Cats basketball schedule? We have to start the first five games on the road!! At least in the past when there was an even number of teams in the conference and you traveled in twos, you were guaranteed that however you started the season, you would finish it in reverse (start with three road games, end with three home games). Now, we have an uneven number of teams and are traveling in threes. So there is no consistency to the schedule! A real detriment to a team that is struggling early and just trying to find their identity.

The Big Sky sets the conference schedule for the most part. I was told that in the past Durham and the former Weber Coach (His name slips me right now) Had enough push to influence the conference schedule some what but after they left last spring it became a Doug Fulerton thing, and that should tell you a lot. There are a fair amount of disgruntled AD's and coaches, across the Big Sky this year, and the conference is blaming the problems on adding N. Colorado. Some of the schools with younger staffs seem to accept that, but those with a few more grey hairs are not happy at all.

BTW: Most of our schedule was done this year was put together by the AD dept. When Durham left, the AD stepped in and took that responciblity from who ever the new coaches might be, to allow them to focuse on other issues, or so I hear. I believe next year will go back to Huse and his coaches.

It was Joe Cravens (the Weber coach's name you're looking for, Mslacat) that once said Fullerton came up with the conference schedule on a cocktail napkin. His quote seems to hold here, especially with the first 5 conference games on the road and this new Thursday-Saturday, Saturday-Monday rotation. They didn't need that when there were 9 teams in the league last time and I don't think they need it this year. There will be times when the Cats and other Big Sky teams will play 4 games in 8 days. I've seen the Cats start with 4 on the road, or finish with 4 on the road, but this is ridiculous. This is a team trying to make the tournament and that start will not help.

I should make a quick correction to my last post: the Cats only have their first 4 conference games on the road and have a 4 in a row stretch at home in February. I'm still not going to say that 4 isn't a lot, especially for a young team.

I really despise Fullerton. I think it was a horrible mistake to bring Northern Colorado into the Big Sky as opposed to one or more of the Dakota schools. (Yes, I know the Presidents had a say in this, but I think that Northern Arizonza and Sac State should not be allowed to dictate who is in the conference based on trravel difficulties.) Plus, even though he is the former Bobcat AD, it seems like MSU is always getting screwed by the Conference ( or its bad refs.) An example would be this year's conference basketball schedule. IMHP.
