Is Rassmusen good enough?

Rolovich has a great arm. That ,we can see. BUT>>>> He does not see his OPEN recievers, nor does he have any mobility skills. This all boils down to the fact that we will not contend for the NC next year with him leading this team.
So does Rassmusen have what it takes or does Kramer need to go find someone that will make this team a NC competitive team?

I have no idea. I don't think anyone will know until the spring. Anything can happen by next season.

I think both Carpenter and Rolovich will have a solid grasp on the job for next season. In my opinion they will both lose their focus on the pass rush by next fall through repetition. Neither one of them has seen significant action since high school and it looked like this year both had a tendency to focus on the amount of pressure rather than the targets downfield

Rassmussen will defintely be in the hunt for the starting job next year. He has good size and a good arm. Has to prove himself!

nothing against rass, he will still be technically a froshmen (this was his redshirt year...right?) which means he will have froshmen problems.

give him snaps under center...definately. start...no.

i feel comfortable with either rolo or carp under center provided we run a heck of a lot more next season

Wasn't there a rumor about the Denver Broncos scouts loving Rasmussen early in the year? I say the QB position definately should be an open competition in the spring. Kramer should let this be known so that all 3 work HARD this offseason (non only conditioning), but looking at tons and tons of game film as there were a TON of WR's open that did not receive the ball on time. I think Jack has the tools to be a great QB, but he really needs to sit down and learn ins/outs of the offense even more when WR's break open etc. There were a lot of times when the play broke down he stopped reading the WR's unless they were flying wide open deep. And yes, I am an armchair QB and I know it is a LOT HARDER finding open receivers when you are running for your life so I totally respect the QB position and how hard it is to play. Our QB's need to dig in hard this offseason and learn the offense IN AND OUT so that they they can knock off the 1st/2nd/3rd reads easily on each and every play.

Anyway, I can see any of our 3 QB's coming back next year and starting for us. It all depends who puts in the work and who is the most READY by next year in my opinion.

I don't know where the link is anymore to Rasmussen's recruiting tape but I will say I was VERY impressed with his overall athletic ability in that video.

Obviously there's a HUGE difference between that and a kids ability to perform during a game, but I will say that he is probably a better overall athlete than either Carpenter or Rolovich but that's a long way from him being a better QB.

Kind of like TL when he was a freshman. Its hard to say that these days. These athletes have so many more tools to learn from today than they did before. He may be a freshman, but he is listed at 6-4 220lbs. Just saying he could put it together if he is a hard enough worker.

The App State QB is a freshman and I believe they are doing just fine with him.

If Rassmusen is "supposedly" a good athlete, then he has a great chance. It is very important for our QB to be more moble than than Rolo is.

remember...freshmen make freshmen mistakes....

when TL was a froshmen we had a very good running game with Ryan Johnson..

It'll probably start out as an open competition, but I wouldn't be surprised one bit if Rassmussen ends up starting. We have two good quarterbacks, but Rass might be great. His HS coach said he's the best he's had and he's had a few go to PAC 10 teams and 1-2 go pro. According to him Rass was injured his junior year and that scared a couple teams off because it lingered all through the summer and he wasn't able to hit a lot of camps at 100%. He also said that WSU and UW (took the No. 1 QB in Wash.) were loaded with QBs, so it was tough year to get a full scholarship to a I-A in the area. He said some years 3-4 guys go to PAC 10 schools, but it just wasn't that kind of year.

I am not sure Joe Hirst wasn't more mobile than Rolo on Saturday! :D

The job has to be opened up and may the best canidate win. Rolo has trouble making reads and Carp is too conservative. Our O-line hasn't proven that they can protect a pocket-passer. It is hard to say what will happen if one of our backs can stay healthy and put up 100 yds a game. The play calling must get a lot better for these guys. I don't think Bailey's offense plays to their strengths. Have we ran a screen pass all season long? These are the kinds of plays that help contain the pass rush and create confidence for the QB. Spring ball will help tell where this team is going next year.

If it was a post I made, it was a Raiders scout that said he had great QB size and great mechanics.
