Hmmm. Damn near even accross the board... EXCEPT in the MSU WR vs ASU DB area - I LIKE that matchup!

Now all we have to do is worry about their speed!!!!

But when you have size AND speed, should you really worry? I feel more confident as each day passes. I just figured them southern boys might be a little bigger.

Confidence is good. Just remember those are averages. For example, watch for ASU's WR William Mayfield #9 6'3" 220 lbs. (started at LB last year). It is not uncommon for him to drag 3 DBs the last 5 or 10 yds. for a TD.

Also, are you aware that Coastal Carolina's Coach Bennett said "ASU's OL eat gunpowder and nails" for breakfast? I am not making this up.

Love your quote on C. Shakleford. For those of you who might not know who he is, in the early to mid-1980's Mr. Shakleford played forward for the NC State men's basketball team. Pretty good player (I think he played a little in the NBA), but he was not recruited for his brains or his vocabulary. He really did say that "amphibious" line to some TV reporter. My brother went to NC State at the same time he did.

I just heard ASU got even bigger and stronger with a legal transfer, some kid name Paul Bunyan. Only problem is they are trying to find a place to keep his blue OX.

They have some pretty big WR's across the board. Our corners better come prepared to not only cover, but break blocks by the WR's in this one. That is where Chadron really really excelled blocking for Woodhead. Their WR"s stuck to our DB's like glue and never let them make the play on the outside so if the LB missed the tackle it made for some big plays. That will be a very very big key in this game and will be fun watching the matchup with the WR/CB blocking downfield.

I would think that some of these players have played a bit of d-1 and are good players they have just dropped down due to the fact that they wanted more playing time or what not.

We only have one transfer who sees any significant playing time and that is DL Daniel Orlebar, who transferred from Wake Forest two years ago. Our 3rd team QB, Chase Laws, transferred from Army. Otheriwse, we don't have any. Coach Moore doesn't take very many transfers.

Do I really need to point out to you guys that we are playing d-1 football?? On ASU, only a handful of players have transferred from a Div.1-A (now BS) school: Orlebar - starting DT, from Wake Forest, and Chase Laws - 3rd QB, from Army are the only two I can think of. #7 WR James Hill transferred from Rhode Island this year, but RI is Div.1-AA (now CS).

The vast majority of ASU players have red-shirted or played since they were freshmen at ASU.

I have heard others say that the caliber of players in CS (old 1-AA) football is not as good as 1-A. Maybe, I do not know for sure. It is also true though that sometimes bigger schools overlook diamonds in the rough. Edwards, a S.C. native, comes to mind - U. of So. Carolina did not think he was "tough" enough!!! They were proven wrong.

Yep, I think that was Coach Bennett's worry exactly!!!

This brings to mind the Griz in the mid to late 80's. They recruited big guys for the D line and O line. They played Georgia Southern in the playoffs. They got slaughtered. The GSU crowd was chanting "Big, White and Slow Go Back to the Snow". UM retooled the D and got a bunch of fast players but smaller. In the playoffs they got blown off the line of scrimmage. UM went back to the drawing board again and got fast but larger players on the D. They won a NC title in 95 with the new D and were runner ups in 2006.

Speed doesn't always mean success.

If ASU is quicker in every position we could be in trouble. But I know MSU has players that are also very quick. D we need to contain the QB. Offense protect the QB. Won't be an easy task but after playing against UM which has a defenesive player on the Buck Buch. Watch list it shouldn't be a suprise when we play a very athletic and very good team.

I agree that it really doesn't matter if there are drop downs or not. Many kids who start at this level are good enough to play some at the next level, maybe not as much as they would like, but still play. However, I do think there is a distinct advantage in playing at a higher level and competing, even if it is only in practice, against players from the larger schools. I can't imagine anybody who has played against Pac-10 or Big-12 talent, would be intimidated by the players or environments of App St. or MSU.

The difference between the big schools and us is the giant disparity in depth of good players. That is why our win at CU and almost victory at OSU are so astounding. It is not astounding that we have kids who could play there.

I do, though, remember the University of Washington crying a river of tears over losing Joey Thomas and Chambers (to UM).

Here is the one name that I like for this weekend. Rayshawn Bobo...not a huge rush end, but fast. I think he will be working hard on the contain and give Daly/Force/LeBlanc time to flow to the ball. We may not be as "fast" as Appy but I'm will to say we are just as "quick"...there's a big difference. Can't wait to watch this game tomorrow!!!

If we are not as fast as App St., then we are certainly not slow enough to give them a measurable advantage. I think Bobo is a stud, too. These players just exude confidence.

If we get beat, it won't be because of the homefield advantage.
