With a lack of a loss this week end we should move up about one next week, so we will be well short of the play off cut off. Looks like we will need to thump the Griz to make the tourney.

5 3 loss teams above us. We need to hope that they all lose and it enables us to move up even more this week during our bye week. I still hold out hope that if it happens and we do lose to the Griz in a close game we possibly get an at large. Even if not, the higher we move up if we do win, then a better seed is possible. Over the last 4-5 years we have consistently been a stong team at the end of the year. I still feel, and wish the selection committee did also, that if you have several 3 and 4 loss teams you pick the ones playing the best at the end. Leave out those teams that lose 2 of 3 in Nov.

Right now, I could see us in the playoffs or just barely on the outside if they simply went with the top teams in the polls. Two teams ahead of us (NDSU and Harvard) are not eligible or do not participate in the playoffs. But we still need to beat the Griz for sure so the question of an at-large bid becomes a moot point.

Win on the 18th and let them come or hope we get to go play in a dome :wink: Also, the Southland gets an auto and they don't have any teams ranked.

Those who vote San Diego, Coastal Carolina and Harvard ahead of MSU has their heads in the sand

Only the top 4 teams are seeded.

We only go to playoffs with a win in Msla. If we lose a close one in Msla we aren't going to make it. Having 4 losses, one of which came at the hands of a D-II, will keep us out.

The Cats may get some help this weekend: #5 NDSU plays #9 Cal Poly and #12 UNI plays #14 Southern Illinois. #10 Furman plays Ga. Southern in a big rivalry game as well.

4 losses is 4 losses and if there are several teams in the top 20 with them they have to look at overall season. Yes we lost to a DII but yes we beat a DI. Maybe they cancel each other out and they also were at the beginning of the season. Why is that worse than losing to a mediocre team at your own level at this point in the season.

I KNOW THEY ONLY SEED 4 TEAMS. But, they also pair up the remaining teams by picking who travels and who plays where. Don't get your panties in a wad. The farther up we move the less likely we play one of the top 4 teams right off the bat and maybe even top 6-8.

Exactly correct. Next week we'll probably move up a couple more spots to be around 15 or 16 of the eligible teams, then we should leap to around 10-12 after beating the Griz, which SHOULD get a home playoff game... if I understand the rules correcty. Teams 1 through 4 will host, bringing in teams 16 through 13 respectively, and teams 5 through 12 will get paired up based on locations and $$ bid???

I didn't root for the griz, but am glad that they beat CP. I figure that if NDSU can get by CP this weekend, CP will have 4 losses and not get considered. This will also eliminate the NCAA thinking about spreading out the picks over a geographic region......CP and um, instead of MSU and um. I think that if we get by the griz we should move up considerably because "afterall they are the second ranked team in America" even though they are not that good of a team. {gee, see what a reputation will do for you?}

I also think that if the griz lose to UNC we may get in win or lose at um.

If the Cats beat UM, how much do they drop? Two spots? If they drop further they should not be a top seed. When New Hampshire was #1 and lost they dropped to 7th. They lost to a ranked team as well. It will be interesting to see what happens. When they lost at home to EWU and were ranked 2nd or so last year, they only dropped 2 spots. Why is that?

We cant be a top seed if end up ranked lower than 4th. We cant be any seed as only the top 4 teams are seeded.

Why is it so hard for cat fans to understand that ONLY 4 teams get seeded. How can teams seeded 13 to 16 be paired up with the 4 seeded teams when the remaining 12 teams are not seeded.

Who wants the at-large? That is for teams that can't win their own conference but can afford to buy a playoff game. I want the Title and nothing less.

Probably for the same reason it's hard for Griz fans to find the question mark. But don't worry, you only missed two of them.

Hate to defend a griz, but EcG is right. The top 4 teams are seeded and will host, the remaining 12 are wide open. Four of the 12 will host, depending in the bidding process. The first round matchups after that have nothing to do with seeding, they're based more on travel, etc., with the only restriction being that 2 teams from the same conference can't meet in the first round.

Where does Catacat say anything about seeding other than the top 4 teams. he says the 5-12 teams are paired with each other. Obviously if 4 are seeded they are given the 4 lowest teams, maybe you don't call this seeding, but someone is ranking them somehow. From there, the remaining 8 teams are assigned games. I think they are RANKED somehow because I doubt the #1 team is going to get the 5th best team in the committee's opinion in the second round. Please clarify to me your understanding if only the top for are seeded. Do you believe they draw the rest out of a hat?
