In a couple of different posts the key to beating the griz is supposed to be a strong, consistent offensive live. In heated debates with a family member who is a griz fan (i'm not sure if it was being hit by a car on the freeway or all of those everclear shots in high school)....I've been told that the griz o-line is now the strongest in the nation due to their new full time strength coach.
I've looked it up and the griz do now how a full time strenght and conditioning coach. What to the CATS have? How do our summer and winter conditioning programs compare?
sorry for the rookie questions but the basis for a strong season is what's done in the off-season!

MSU has a varsity weight room and a full time strength coach that is used for all sports. not football aloneCatsRback wrote:In a couple of different posts the key to beating the griz is supposed to be a strong, consistent offensive live. As a former player I don't think having a strength coach strictly for football makes much of a difference. Our S&C coach has an assistant who takes some of the smaller sports. Besides there are only so many hours in a day and a NCAA limit on how many hours players can spend on practice, lifting, and meeting.CatsRback wrote:so how much of an advantage does having a full time coach for just football give the griz? I bet it helps with recruiting
I think our S&C guys do a decent job of preparing their athletes. I say decent only because I don't really care for the heavy reliance on the Olympic lifts. I know that they are good for explosion and speed development but in the midst of a 12 or more week season the shift should be towards something a little less strenuous on the joints and back. IMHO
Let me explain something to you. Um, I am not "Mr. Lebowski". You're Mr. Lebowski. I'm the Dude. So that's what you call me. You know, that or, uh, His Dudeness, or uh, Duder, or El Duderino if you're not into the whole brevity thing.

If that's what you were ACTUALLY told, then your friend is probably "still" doing everclear shots!CatsRback wrote:I've been told that the griz o-line is now the strongest in the nation due to their new full time strength coach.

I'm sure the coach has helped a good deal, but the biggest benefit will be in the next couple of years.
Besides, was there a "national strength" contest recently that I missed?

No contest just the Griz Nation with their clam to fame with everthing else. Cant win the conference so they have to make up awards.VictorG wrote:If that's what you were ACTUALLY told, then your friend is probably "still" doing everclear shots!CatsRback wrote:I've been told that the griz o-line is now the strongest in the nation due to their new full time strength coach.

Re: Strength Coach
Strongest at what? They sure aren't the strongest run blocksing/pass blocking UNIT as a whole in the nation that is for sure. Strength is only one key aspect in blocking anyway. You can be as strong as a bull, but if a guy gets under your pad level your strength is nullified. You need a combination of speed/strength/smarts/foot agility to be a good offensive lineman.VictorG wrote:If that's what you were ACTUALLY told, then your friend is probably "still" doing everclear shots!CatsRback wrote:I've been told that the griz o-line is now the strongest in the nation due to their new full time strength coach.
