Week 6 Sagarin Ratings

Post by ZifCat52 » Fri Oct 06, 2006 4:27 pm

There was a lot of discussion about the Sagarin ratings, their usefulness, and their accuracy last week. I hope everyone enjoys these in that it is a computer's look from hopefully objective data about the coming games. I agree that they could likely be more valid later in the year, but as we saw last week, the game is played on the field and not the computer so you never really know who is going to win until the game is over. That's the beauty of sports and why we talk about it all week between the games. If you want or don't want to see these, that's fine with me, but I think its fun to see one way of trying to take the Blue and Gold or Maroon or Green colored glasses off and look at what might happen.

Last week only one game was projected correctly out of the four played in the Big Sky, bringing the total for the year to 22/32 or 68.8% This week's projected winners are:

Portland State over MSU in Bozeman
Montana over Eastern Washington in Cheney
Northern Colorado over Idaho State in Greely
Sacramento State over Weber State in Sacramento

NAU is idle

The predicted final standings are as follows:

Montana: 10-1 Overall, 8-0 Conference
Portland State: 8-3 Overall, 7-1 Conference
Sacramento State: 5-6 Overall, 5-3 Conference
Montana State: 5-6 Overall, 4-4 Conference
Northern Arizona: 5-6 Overall, 4-4 Conference
Eastern Washington: 4-7 Overall, 4-4 Conference
Weber State: 4-7 Overall, 3-5 Conference
Northern Colorado: 2-9 Overall, 1-7 Conference
Idaho State: 1-10 Overall, 0-10 Conference

These are determined by comparing the Sagarin ratings for each team in each game for the week and applying the home field advantage number to the home team. Each game for each team all year is updated with the numbers for that week, then adjustments are made for previous games played that did not go as predicted to get the current projections for the entire year. Its something I do every week and I thought you might enjoy it so that's why they show up, I don't claim them to be anything but a cause for discussion. If you want me to keep them coming or not, just say yeah or nay and I will post or not based on your feedback.

Definately keep them coming, I enjoy looking at it and thank you for doing it!
