Weather (rain help or hurt?)

Well it looks like 80% chance of rain in Bozeman for Saturday. 52 degrees or so. I almost think this may help the Cats because their big DL won't be able to get firm footing and a big push. I know it goes both ways regarding our DL, but I would almost stick in our CHEETAH unit this weekend if the field becomes bad. Put guys that can fly to the ball in as the RB's won't be able to make that hard initial slice cut w/o falling down probably. Have to see how the weather actually turns out, but if its 80% chance that probably means it will be raining all morning up to game time probably.

I saw the 80% chance for rain, but I don't think the field would be anywhere close to what it was for the Cat-Griz game. Last year, it had snowed on the field by the game and had partially melted, so the rest had to be pushed off and the thawed ground caused for quite a bit of mud. I don't think it would be very muddy this weekend if it rains.

the way the field is designed...

it will effectively drain a diluge or consistant rain fall over several days...depending on existing soil moisture...maybe both...

however, if there is substantial moisture in the soil when it is initally frost bound or frozen then followed by a thaw or wet snow or rain on top of it...it turns to a swamp...because the deep residual frost will not allow the moisture to drain...

so it could rain consistantly(sp) for several days and be fine...or have a diluge and still be very playable...so probably the field will be in great condition for both teams to play an exciting game...resulting in a one point cat victory...

I think it hurts, Portland gets way more rain than Bozeman and it doesn't sound like Jefferson likes bad weather.

Yes it rains all the time in Portland and are running back Ali is built low to the ground 5'8" 200 lbs and loves to play in the mud he told the media.
I just perefer a dry field because I feel running backs are at their best on dry field and I want to see Mason run.

hadn't seen it before, but weather.com is also calling for 17mph winds on Saturday....beautiful.

The weather should never be relied on to make a difference in any game and can't be controlled. The better team wins more often than not because it's better, not because of the weather. The Packers have lost their last two playoff games at home for recent history; they damn near lost to Dallas in the Ice Bowl back in '67. Fans, players, coaches have to quit hoping the weather can help them and focus on playing well and the job at hand. That would be an advantage.

But crowd noise can make a difference and we can control that.

I disagree. Teams have different makeups as to how they attack on offense and how they attack on defense.

I don't, however, think that this weekend's weather will have any impact on the field's condition. But, the wind will play a role in team strategy in trying to make sure you have it at your back in the fourth quarter.

I'll be there ensuring I do my part to be a part of the 12th man.

True, the weather can affect the game, but I'd never say it gives one team an advantage over the other. It's a discredit to the winning team to say they won because of the weather. Homefields where the fans are making a lot of noise and very supportive are much bigger factors in the outcomes of games than weather.
