Rob Christoff is still our DC.
From the Chronicle:
"And Thursday, he (Kramer) diffused rumors that defensive coordinator Rob Christoff has either been fired or demoted. 'He's still the D-coordinator,' Kramer said. 'Rob will go upstairs in the (coaches') box this week'"

Is being "upstairs in the box" the coaching equivalent of being in time out?

i would think that they are just puttin ghim up there to get a differnet perspective of what's going on. You can see a ton more from up there as opposed to being on the field. Hopefully this will be a good change!!

I have no beef with Christoff. As mentioned in another thread, I don't think our defense has looked any different than it did last year. That isn't necessarily a good thing, however.
Give him some time, no one can be judged in their first season.

Also, aren't most O/D coordinators in the boxes anyways? I thought I heard someone say that Christoff just likes to be more hands on during the game and wanted to be on the field. Hopefully the view from above gives him a better idea of what is going on.

Or possibly out in the dog house. Actually it's probably better to be in the box. It's easier to see the sets and it's better than having someone spit in your face when they get mad at you. You can always turn down the volume on the headsets :D

Generally the coordinators are upstairs so they can see the field better. Hopefully they have worked out the communications to get the 'D' scheme down to the field and to the players in a timely manner.

Amen....that seemed to be a problem in the UC Davis game.

I hadn't realized that Christoff was actually on the field during the game. I definitely feel up in the box is a better place for him...good move.
I can't wait to see some Cats with their ears pinned back.

View from the box is far superior to being on the field, you can see exactly how everyone is dropping into coverages and what adjustments need to be made, most coordinators do prefer to be upstairs

Someone has been on the sidelines sending in plays and trying to line up players to close to the snap of the ball. Not sure if it's Christoff or what or if the message is coming down from the box too late. I think instead of yelling at guys from the sideline at the last second it's just better to leave them where they're at and let them react. Just get lined up and make a play. I'd rather have guys set than have them running around or looking at the sideline at the snap.
Did you see the play in the FSU/Clemson game that set up the winning score for Clemson? About 4-5 FSU players were all looking over at the sideline at one of the coaches and Clemson snapped the ball. The guy went from the 50 to the 1 and they scored soon after.
This also happened to us vs. SSU down there in '04. First play of the second half I believe, except Mole went 80 yards or so for the score. The defense doesn't have a chance when this kind of thing happens.

Agreed. The guys aren't in junior high anymore. This is no time to have them looking at the sidelines.

Someone up stairs is watching the O to see their substitutions and then sending in a formation. Sideline then must call it out and approriate personnel need to get into the game. Maybe who we had upstairs was not getting the info down quickly so sideline could call play. This might rectify that if we can in fact react quicker. I do agree though if you get info late probably better to just leave the people on the field and make due rather than running players around.

Coach K was always down on the field when he was the DC here, and Christoff was up in the box. What this tells me is that whoever was in charge of relaying intell to Christoff must have been slow to make reads or just did not have the proper skill. I know that things have changed but when I was playing under Coach K he got info from the box signaled the play and it was up to the mike backer to make any adjustments. My point is I don't think that much has changed with the d since K's departure, and that if the guy in the box is slow or wrong the entire D suffers.

I think it was meant to be a joke. i.e. a child who misbehaves is put in another location in 'timeout' for punishment... I mean... behavior modification.
It made me laugh.
