Leadership

Post by BobcatBlood » Mon Sep 18, 2006 2:39 pm

Who are the leaders on this team?

Let's say that someone steps up this week from inside the huddle (offense and defense) and takes control - who is it going to be?

Has someone tried to do this in the last two games?

Unfortunately I think our biggest leader on D was Ryan Force... in fact Kramer said on the post game show that he's not only the best player on D - but that he usually lined up all the other guys. Another comment that points to a major, troubling, coaching deficiency...

Bobby Daly on defense. Elliot Barnhardt on offense when he returns.

Interesting couple of Montana kids? Could be, but underclassmen have trouble doing that, as does the TE position. I just havn't heard either of these two vocal and/or leading in practice or during the game (last year for Barnhardt). Great if they can, but ......

Would rather think Cory needs to get comfortable and step up (QB is perfect position to do this). Jefferson could also help, as would Wheaton (since he was a captain at UNLV). Jensen probably steps up on OL

On D, Henderson Perfect guy to step in for Force being a Safety in the middle of the field. Daily has a chance because MLB does tend to do that but being a soph, that is reaching, but Papaich might be a good choice at DL and Clive at LB.

They need to just come together as a team and sometimes that takes time.

Non are Montana Kids, but still these guys probably are listened to a little bit.

Come on, you see in the NFL the QB moving guys around to the right spots. The D's constantly have guys yelling to move or change coverage (depending what the O comes out in) or guys just line up wrong or leave a WR uncovered.

Is that troubling to NFL fans that NFL Players are moving around and obviously don't know where they should be? Or is it coaching deficiencies by Cowher when the Steeler D moves around. They should fire that guy Cowher, He lost tonight!!

Oh wait, I got carried away, sorry, we're not talking about the NFL

Obviously you'd want your QB to be a leader on O, and I think CC will grow into that role as the season goes on. Also, at QBC yesterday Krames pointed out that to be successful, this offense has to go thru Michael Jefferson. Yes, he had 4 drops Saturday (anyone remember Gatewood's 6 drop game at Weber last year?), and until he makes a few big plays it's going to be hard for the other players to look at him as a leader. The same goes for Wheaton, he knows how to lead, heck he was a team cap at UNLV.

On D, Force was as good of a leader as you can ask for. Now that his future is unknown, who is gonna step it up? Lowe? Pap? These guys should be a presence but have been pretty tame so far. Henderson has all the right tools, but he falls into the same situation on D that Wheaton and Jefferson do on O; the other guys just don't know him that well yet.

We have all of the puzzle pieces to be great team, we just need the pieces to fit together.

Maybe you're right... but what I've seen the past 2 weekends is a defense that is moving around, pointing, yelling, looking confused... before several of the snaps...
